Default Favorite cat litter and why?

I think I have tried pretty much all of the grocery store brands and didn't like them for various reasons. Tried a few expensive ones from the fancy pet stores and didn't like them either. Finally settled on the stuff in the green jug that they sell at Costco. Can't remember what it is called.

Then our cat died and we got two new ones. Mom and baby. The adoption agency said they used World's Best. Gave me a small bag to use. Fine. Bought another small bag. Fine. But went through that quickly. Bought the huge bag. Not fine! Hard to haul home and carry in and daughter and I both wasted quite a bit of it trying to pour it into the litter pan because it is just too hard to control. If I get this stuff again, I will have to stick to the small bags. However I just got a multiple cat litter box online and it is HUGE! Says it holds 30 pounds of litter. Not sure it will fit in my bathroom. Told daughter after we finish this litter, I will switch boxes and go back to the Costco stuff at least to use up the two jugs that we have.

What I like about the Costco stuff: It's cheap. I can carry the jug. I can pour from the jug. It doesn't stink.

What I don't like about the Costco stuff: It can stick to the box. I can't flush it. Although I don't really have to change the box out all that often, it is difficult to do because the litter is heavy and I can't pick the box up.

What I like about World's Best: It's flushable. When I smell something in there, I just go and scoop it out. It doesn't stick to the box. It's lightweight enough that with a few inches left in the box, I can carry the box out to dump it. However this might not be the case once I start with the new box.

What I don't like about World's Best: The odor! I can tell right away when they poop. The worst is when they've pooped when I'm not home. Yes, once I've scooped it, things are fine. But they also tend to poop right after I go to bed or during the night and I wake up to the stink. Or during dinner. And you don't just smell it near the litter box. You smell it all over the house! Yes, we have a small house but still... I have spoken to others who love this litter and they say there is no stink and if I have a stink my cats must have health problems. I don't think they do. They've been to the vet. Baby had lung worms and both have been treated for that. Otherwise the vet said they are healthy.

Would be nice to be able to use coupons for litter. I did once find a good sale at the grocery store and combined it with coupons. Then when I went back for more, they were out. Got a raincheck and more coupons. But it turned out I didn't like that litter at all. It didn't clump well at all and it was stinky. I think it was Arm and Hammer.

I have one box of Fresh Step out in the garage. Hated it! Not sure what I will do with that.

I also have some plain clay litter which isn't bad, but... You do have to change it out frequently. I was using it in disposable boxes all over the house towards the end of our old cat's life. She had kidney failure and as it progressed to that, she needed plenty of boxes.

Right now I'm using Tidy Cat. My store had them on sale 40 pound bags for $6.00. The store recently allowed us to double 2 coupons up to $1.00. I had some $1 off coupons and I would up getting 4 40 pound bags for $4.00. I had a friend who doesn't coupon and I gave her 2 of my $1 off coupons and she got me 2 bags. I have 4 cats and I clean the boxes (I have 2 next to each other in my bathroom) when I first get up and right before I go to bed.

I've used special kitty (Wal-Mart brand) which was also good. I tend to buy what I can get the best deal on. If it's something I don't like after my initial purchase I just don't buy it again.

With the litter you have but don't like. I would suggest offering it to your local pet shelter or even your vet. When my cats don't care for a cat food I buy for them I give it to my SPCA. They're delighted to get it even if the bags are opened with some missing. I bring old sheets, towels and blankets to my vet. They always find the use for them. My daughter had some litter she used some from and didn't like it. She put it on Craigslist and was quite surprised at how many people offered to take it.

We use Tidy Cat. I like it because it really does cut down on the smell and we have six cats. It also come in jugs (clumping) and bags(non clumping) that are a good size for my daughter to handle. It's her job to take care of the littler box. Also It seems to go on sale often at various stores and there always seems to be coupons out to match with those sales.

We actually like the new Double Duty from A&H. We find the moisture content to be great and the odor is actually masked very well! We are a two cat household. One litter box is in one room and the other is in the basement. The one in the basement we found had to be changed (litter thrown completely out) because of the mositure from the basement. It would get to a point where the litter wouldn't clump at all. This DD is excellent and it retains its clumpiness!

We use tidy cats and have for a long time. It's cheap and it works! The small 10lb bags are always $2 or less and there are almost always coupons out there. They come in bigger bags and jugs. We only have 1 cat but it really works and he likes it. We tried the A&H and he kicked his litter all over the floor so we switched back to the tidy cats and I dont see changing that anytime soon.

I like Scoop Away. If you have a Costco you can buy 42 lbs for less than $12.00 and they send out coupons for 2.50 off alot too. I will use Tidy CAts if I can find a better deal, but I definately prefer Scoop Away. I have 6 cats and we definately need one that blocks odor...hehe

I've been using Feline Pine Original for several years now and really like it. It's not a clay litter, it consists of basically sawdust pressed into little pellets. When it gets wet, the pellets break apart back into the sawdust form. Then when it's time to change the litter, you can basically sift out the pellets that are still whole, dispose of the sawdust, clean the box, and add the old pellets & some more. I really like that it doesn't track that much compared to other litters I've used in the past. Sometimes my cat will get a pellet between her toes and it will end up on the other side of the room as she walks away from the box, but that is easy enough to pick up.

Also, the sawdust can likely be used for various purposes around the yard and is biodegradable. I have just one cat and one of the small bags lasts at least a month for us. My mother sometimes uses the Feline Pine Scoopable with her cats (had 4 cats using it at one time) and I think it works fairly well for them.
I will only be online every few days, so I may be a bit slow to respond.

We use A&H Multi Cat. 2 cats. I hate, hate, hate it - I feel like the dust it kicks up when you're scooping is horrible. But, my cats refuse to use anything else and will literally pee everywhere BUT the box if I try to switch them out. I also almost never find coupons for the A&H, so my best option is a PetPerks deal at PetSmart, but it's still terribly expensive. Did I mention I hate it??

Actually I don't even clean the boxes anymore - when I was pregnant with our kids my DH changed and cleaned them and it just became "his job." I sort of never offered to do it and maybe kind of make excuses about not being able to do it for one reason or another and so I don't.

The pet shelter is where I got my cats. They are very picky as to the litter they use and they only use World's Best. Not sure about the vet. I will ask them.

Is the litter you use the clumping kind?
