Default Getting puppies in Aug, starting to stock now

So, what can I get now that will keep?? I figure things like flea and tick treatments and treats are okay. Will bagged food keep alright? Should I put it in a plastic tub??

We're looking at getting 3 labrador types, so they will be fairly large. Figure won't do too much canned food, but may do some.

Anything else you guys can think off??

flea and tick for household use. They really don't work very well on the dogs, especially from wm. You can always get dog houses, water and food bowls, leads and collars. How old will the pups be when you get them. Most breeders wait until they are on hard kibble but some don't so you just want to be prepared for some can moist or you can you use dry just add some hot water and mash it up. (That's what I do with mine when I have pups to sell). Stock up on grooming products also. Be checking around to your local vets and find the one that fits with you the most. THey really don't mind you interviewing them. As far as flea meds I really like the comfortis pill you get from the vet it lasts for a month and does a really good job.

I think the dry kibble will keep as long as you don't open it right away. Feel free to pick my head anytime.

If you can get adams flea and tick products from Walmart they do work well... I know with my dogs in the past you can spray them with the adams spray and you will see the fleas falling off dead!! and u can use it as a home spray too!

with labs, it depends on what you want them for. are you going to be working them alot? or are they just going to be having fun in your house? if you are working them, you might want to consider hi protein dog food. if not, regular dog food. DO NOT get walmart old roy junk. dry food will keep and treats as long as they dont have the moth larvae in them or it doesnt get in them. but, think about critters and where you will store it.

flea and tick is only necessary if you will have the out and about or if you live in an area that there are lots of ticks. i have a lab and only got flea stuff once and that is when he got them (i brought them home from a friends dog).

toys. labs like balls. but, make sure they are larger size (tennis ball and up) dont get anything smaller. they can choke. kongs are great toys because they are hard to chew

are they going to be kenneled or inside? kenneled in the yard, find a metal pail for water. with 3, you will need at least 2 or 3. dog houses, for outside splurge and get something nice that you can access and the dogs will fit in. i made mine out of wood with a flip up lid so i can put in cedar chips (dont use blankets as they will freeze and make the dog cold). our dog houses are up off the ground by 8 inches so it doesnt get water logged and they have a "porch" to sit on.

a good brush (they shed in the summer)

if you get lots of fleas, buying the drops that go into the skin (dont buy from walmart, go to TSC or farm and fleet or the vet) is by far worth the money. once a month and it kills the fleas and ticks. then just get flea shampoo in case you need it.

fly spray is a good one. flies will bite their ears. i have both the salve and the spray, but prefer the spray.

peroxide. mix one part peroxide to 3 parts water. put in a water squeeze bottle. lab's get lots of "yeast infections" in their ears. when it starts to come on, squirt in ear and swish around til it goes away. you will know when they get it as they shake their heads alot and their ears will stink (gross stink). my old vet told me to do this since mine was continually getting the infections.

Adams for fleas and ticks works great. You use to have to get it from the vet but you can buy it online at Walmart now. Target use to carry it on the selves but stop for some reason.
But everyone has their preference, I have used the 70 dollar stuff, the stuff you get from the vet and even cheap stuff. Adams has worked the best for me, we have had no fleas for 2 years and only a couple ticks.
Check the dates on the food you buy make sure it still going to be awhile before it expires.
Lots of biting toys they can chew on. I also took wet wash rags rung them out left them twisted and them froze them. When my puppy started chewing and teething I gave him a frozen rang to chew on. He really liked them, kinda like a teething ring for puppies.

Thanks for the info! Pups will be about 10 weeks old when we get them. The only work they will have is keeping up with my three.

Bagged food keeps fairly well just as long as it is kept out of the heat or cold.

Stock up on toys... labs love tennis balls!! Just finished playing with my yeloow lab for almost 1/2 hr with her tennis ball.

The nylabone coupons that were in this past weeks paper are gonna come in handy cause I found at WM and Petsmart this morning toys on clearance so I will pay almost nothing for toys.

Oh and catch up on your sleep now.. The past 2 nights with the new puppy have reminded us why we never had more kids. Up 4-5 times a night with her and her whining is sooooo loud.

I have two labs one female who is 60 pounds eats about 3 cups a food a day. Then I have a yellow lab that is 110 pounds. We use beneful. Labs need to be out side to run it is in there blood. If they start having trouble keeping the food down you might have to change the type you use. I would not buy to much at this time. Find out what they are on when you get them and stick to the food. If not you night have loose stools. You might also want to crate train them. Labs like to know that they are in charge the vet told us. WE have a lot of trouble with our black lab cause it was our first and we did everything wrong now she sleeps with us. the second one we got is great cause it was trained
