Hello there! Starting to get more comfortable with posting in the forums...We have 2 APBT's, 1 male (Kai) and 1 female (Bela), 5 & 7 years old respectfully. We also have 1 supreme kitty (Morgan). She is now 10 years old and is in charge of the family:)

Wow - interesting reading all the posts. I don't feel so weird now! We have 25 cats. Twenty-four live outside on our acre lot and range from age 4 weeks to 3 years. We made the "mistake" of feeding a pregnant "stray" cat (later discovered it was our neighbors) and she thanked us by having her kittens on our front porch. We made arrangements with the mama kitty's owner to keep the kittens and get them fixed. There were three males and ONE female. We got the boys fixed but couldn't afford the female. Guess where 80% of the 25 cats came from in two year's time?? Yep, our lone female from the 2008 litter. We've had six litters born just this year and all but one have suffered at least one loss. The kitten living inside now developed an upper respiratory infection and eye infection in both eyes. One eye ruptured and had to be surgically removed. She has limited vision in the remaining eye but it improves daily. She is a handful. When I first called the vet, they said to bring her in, it would only cost $34 to examine her. FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS LATER, she is thriving and my husbands true love. She's the first inside cat we've had since our 19 year old cat passed away. What is also ironic about all of this is that I am supposedly ALLERGIC to cats and dogs! I have pulled maggots from ears and rectums, applied ointment to gunked up eyes, picked dried discharge off kitten noses, bottle fed, helped kittens defecate--you name it, I have probably done it. But they are so worth it! And the best part is that I can name every cat and recognize them on site. No one else in my family can do that. So here they are in descending/family order:

Bear, surviving brother of Pepper. There were two others but one was run over (by my husband!) and coyotes got the other one.

Pepper (F) MOTHER TO: Bandit, Grey, Flotsam, Big Boy, Big Mama, Little Mama, Woolly Bear, Gray, India, Silky, Hopper

Grey (F) MOTHER TO: Tiger, Maggie

Big Mama (F) MOTHER TO: Smackers, White Sox, Crusader (inside kitten)

Little Mama (F) MOTHER TO: Zebra, Ugly

    Maggie (F): Stripes, Blaze, Grey-foot

Marie (Pepper's half/sister from another litter): MOTHER TO: Calico and FOSTER Mother to Woolly Bear (Pepper was attacked by another animal during delivery and abandoned Woolly Bear and another kitten which passed. Woolly Bear survived two nights before we found him. I bottle fed him until Maggie had her kittens and she adopted him. She had two kittens, but the male-Traveling Man-disappeared when only 2-3 weeks old)

    Calico (F) MOTHER TO: Garfield

I think that is all of them. We also have two toms that live on our property (the baby daddies) and another that comes over daily from across the street. I accidentally drove off with his son from Little Mama under my car. We haven't found him dead or alive since.

Anyway, so with all these cats, I am FOREVER looking for coupons and savings. I only feed them Purina Kitten chow which has greatly improved their health. When the first three litters were born, we were feeding the queens 9-lives but the kittens weren't doing so well. I changed the food and there was an immediate difference in just 24-48 hours. I found peelies on Fancy Feast canned kitten food for the kitten chow that expire in 2012 but since they eat 30lbs a week, I need more. I've considered writing Purina and asking them for some higher value coupons but don't know if that would be considered tacky or needy. I just know that I see fliers for free kittens everywhere so we are keeping these little boogers. Besides, I have put too much of my time and energy into seeing to their health.

So, that is my zoo at present. Eventually, we will be adding rabbits (angora) and chickens (for fresh eggs). My husband and 4 year old daughter want a dog but I am standing firm against it. Not that I wouldn't want one, it's just that our pet budget is already strained as it is.

BTW - My name is Angela!
