    Default Ferret Supplies

Hi, I just rescued a 1 yr old male ferret named Spanky. We got him yesterday and he is GREAT!!!! I'm pretty familiar with ferret care as I had one for 9 yrs but sadly Kakiri passed away a few years ago (at the ripe old age of 10!). Will be feeding him EVO which has an even higher protein level than Marshall's ferret food. Have all the necessary supplies for him but I'm looking for really good deals on ferret accessories, especially toys/hammocks/cage accessories- the poor guy had almost nothing in his cage and was living in a garage. It's a nice big cage, but it's pretty bare- even with the stuff I've already added- hanging basket, blankets, DH's old hardhat, a pillowcase (for tunneling). I gave away Kakiri's stuff when she passed and he really needs lots of entertainment when he's in his cage even though he will be (and is right now) running around the house whenever I am home.

Been looking up ferret accessories online and the prices are RIDICULOUS!! There has got to be a cheaper way to pimp his home out. Please help Spanky.

check out the baby toys....it's rather hit or miss but sometimes you can find stuff they will like (we have a bunny...if it says rabbit anywhere on the package she won't touch it! didn't know she could read!lol)

petsmart usually had decent prices (and their sales combined with any coupons are even better)

Let's see... Since getting our little ferret, Delmer, my boyfriend has proclaimed me the ghetto fabulous pet-spoiler of the household.
My little guy's favorite toy BY FAR is one of those little black Kong toys made for small dogs. It's great for the ferrets because you can put treats in it and get their little minds going. You can find them on clearance all over the place (I found mine at Ross Dress for Less for $1.99). As for cage accessories, I recommend bird toys. They are meant to be chewed up and seem to hold much more attention than any toys (which will fall victim to chewing VERY quickly). I also hang old tshirts rather than buying hammocks because my little guy chewed those expensive hammocks in an instant.

Mostly I've learned to buy cheap cat toys and rugged doggie chew toys when I see them on clearance. The parrot ropes seem to entertain my guy the best, and you can find quite a few on Etsy for rather cheap. If you're handy enough, you can even make your own. Good luck!

Ohhhh, you can also get the plastic dryer vents online for about $6. I'm pretty sure the one I got was 20 feet. PLENTY of running space for your little rug monster.

Thanks for the great ideas!!! We can add empty powerade bottles to the list. Spanky had a blast last night trying to get one to fit under the couch. He was really determined and spent about an hour at it before giving up and settling on stashing it behind the couch. Of course this was after he figured out there was NO WAY it was going under the entertainment center

I've got to say, Delmer (my ferret) has decided that plastic toy golf balls are the most entertaining thing we have gotten him. We got a pack of 6 at WalMart for a dollar! I swear, the cheapest toys are the biggest hits when it comes to ferrets. Also, those goofy looking fleece winter hats that kind of look like bunny ears are great sleepers. You can get them at Walmart for about $5. Much better than spending $20 on the ferret sacks that are smaller and not as well made.

Our ferrets (RIP) loved nothing in the world more than plain, cheap stuffed toys. They are ridiculously cheap, but we used to have bags of them around anyway because we used to have small kids. We also used to put empty paper towel or toilet paper roller tubes in with them. They're easily replaced as needed.

Ferrets are fun to watch, aren't they?
