Re: Poll: How many pets do you have? I would have bet I posted to this thread already...but I'm not seeing it...so...
We have one dog, a German Shepherd named Rachel, who was a pound rescue ready to be put down, and was rescued by the humane society...and then we adopted her. Extremely loyal dog.
Two cats, a tuxedo named Oreo, full of attitude, that we found online through a humane society a few counties away. Original owner had far too many pets, and decided to adopt some out. Oreo was in bad shape when we adopted him. We've had him 4 months now, and he has become such a different cat! Yucky ear mites are gone, the horrific case of dandruff he was suffering, is gone. And he is extremely loyal to me. He's finally starting to warm up to wee one and DH. He was supposed to be wee one's new pet, after his kitty died this summer.
Which leads me to Barney. After Oreo came, although we had planned for him to be wee one's pet, he simply did not take to wee one. He chose me as the one he was going to bond with, and no matter what we did, he showed no interest in wee one. So, we decided to consider adopting another cat. We returned the the same humane society that we adopted our dog from, and Barney chose wee one. Literally, from the moment wee one walked in the door. We talked to those who run the humane society, explained what had happened with wee one's kitty dying (Cooter, the deceased cat, was also adopted from this humane society), how we adopted another cat, the lack of bonding, etc. After seeing how wonderful a match that Barney and my wee one were, they decided to GIVE Barney to wee one (normal fee of $75), and to top it off, they talked to their vet, and she de-clawed Barney at no cost! So, that is how we came to have Barney.
Incidentally, my avatar is of Barney. We had gone to the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey circus, and wee one got the clown nose in a bag of cotton candy. He decided that Barney should try it on. The cat wasn't even phased. He is honestly the most mellow cat I have ever known.
So, that's our menagerie! |
