Kitty gave birth tonight to what looks like 4 kittens. I am not bothering them. DH woke up to find a baby at our feet and we had to search for her and the kittys.
Does anyone know how long I have to wait before she can get fixed?

I defiantly have my pets fixed. For the people that don't do it because their pet is "inside only", it only takes once for pet your to get outside & meet up with that other inside only pet that got out to add to the over population!

Hi,

I have done pet rescues for years, and I have seen the aftereffects of not spaying and neutering. I have had all three dogs fixed, plus the bunnies.

My neighbor has two cats which she won't spay, as they "like having the kitties." Unfortunately, they don't KEEP the kitties, as the moms walk them across our yard to the field to teach them to hunt, and our dogs grab them. They don't intentionally kill the kitties, but they are rough. Then, the cats are not allowed indoors, so between the coyotes and hawks, the rest don't make it, either.

But it's okay for the neighbors, as another litter comes along soon enough. I find it frustrating.

Always. I honestly believe it's irresponsible not to. Millions of cats and dogs die every year because there's way too many.

I have 4 dogs and 3 cats. They're all spayed/neutered. I've only had ONE cat in my whole life who has had kittens and I don't plan on having anymore unless I'm rescuing abandoned kittens.. although it'll be a while before I do that since the last time I did that (last summer) I ended up with 3/4 of them.

I worked at a shelter that did it as soon as they were done nursing, and the kittens can get done at 2 months/2lbs. If it's too expensive on your budget to get the babies done, call your local humane society or animal welfare league and see if they can point in the direction of low cost programs in your area. Some vet's who are very into helping with the overpopulation problem may even offer you a discount to get the babies done if you do the mom as well. There is a lot of help out there with all the agencies and programs trying to control the problem. Good luck

Absolutely, I had mine fixed! It makes for a happier, healthier pet because it reduces the chance of many animal diseases, plus makes them less likely to run away, roam, etc. Plus I don't have to worry about offspring!

My ferrets were fixed when I bought them, and I adopted my doggie from a shelter, so it was already fixed.
