Have always gotten my animals from the pound, so they were always fixed. Found a kitty under my porch recently, took her in, and am waiting to get her fixed when the low cost option van comes to town in another month or so. She went into heat this week though... driving me crazy! So, now I am on door guard duty! lol

Seeing this thread pop up again prompted me to search for a low-cost spay/neuter program for my area- that kitty who wouldn't go away has 'gifted' us with three beautiful little fluffballs which are almost 4 weeks old now. as soon as I can, I will be taking ALL of them in to be fixed. They are not technically our cats, but the people down the street who do/did technically "own" the momma cat obviously are among those who don't care (which is why she ended up at our house, and pregnant, anyway).

I found a program in a town about a half-hour away that will spay a cat for $30 and give the rabies shot (required, of course) for $5, both costs are about half of what the local mobile vet clinic charge. So for the cost of two through the mobile clinic I can have all four taken care of.

Yes i have always spayed or neuterd my pets. My dog Nikita i had spayed as soon as she was old enough, especially with several male dogs in the neighborhood i was taking no chances on that. All three cats i have had were/are neutered, thankfully 2 of them came to me allready fixed. The only one i don't neuter is my Iguana Ozzy, since there's zero chance a stray female Iguana is gonna find her way in his enclosure its just not necessary. LOL
I agree with all the other posters there are far to many unwated pets out there, thats its irresponsible not to spay or neuter.

I just spayed a black kitten in December that some worthless human being dumped in my subdivision. She is very loving and I decided to keep her. I had originally thought of giving her to a good home once she was spayed but she is now ruler of my home!! I paid $60 at the local humane society to have her spayed and it would have cost me $350 to have the veterinarian do it. I think that is why so many pets are homeless. People just cannot afford to have it done.

Spaying/neutering is the ONLY responsible option! If you have any doubts, go visit our local shelters (there's most likely more than one in your area), to see the sad situation of homeless pets.

That is unbelievable!! Wow, a large dog here costs over a hundred to spay, but the most expensive vet charges $50 for a cat spay, 35 to neuter. I get out with under a hundred on cats for shots and surgery. Might be a good idea to check neighboring states. I'm just so blown away by that price....ugh!

I wanted her to be a little calmer but not like this!! Hopefully tomorrow she'll feel better.
You did the right thing. We had Coon Hounds that we fixed, and they were jumping the fence a few days after surgery before the stitches even came out!! I'm glad you made the choice to have her done. Even people who find homes for 'accidental breeding' situations can't be sure the pups will be going into forever homes. She'll be jumping around before you know it!

I have alwaysspayed/neutered my pups/kitties! I do have one that I adopted in October that is not spayed. The reason is that when we rescued her the shelter said that she had some non-cancerous tumor like bumps on her chest. Well come to find out, they are cancerous and the I had to take her to a specialist that said unless we have the tumors removed, he will not spay her. I am more then willing to have the surgury, but he said even if we do have the surgury, they will come back and she will have the same problem! She is an older dog~about 10~so when she goes into heat, she just gets really, really miserable (like most of us!) and she could care less if there is a male around. First, she would have to get off the couch to care and when she is off the couch, she follows me everywhere!

yep sure do.. and I just adopted a new doxie from the animal shelter for my son (9yo) for his birthday. His name was Franklin.. hee hee he is so cute!! He cost us 160.00 but he came with his first 2 sets of shots, and he is already neutered. Can't complain about that!!

We have 4 cats and 2 dogs. All of the cats are spayed and 1 dog is neutered as well but our little Shmoopy cannot be fixed. We took her in to have it done and the vet was not able to. All of her organs are fused together in a sack-like thing. The vet said she looked shrink wrapped. This sack cannot be cut into or it could kill her. BUT she cannot get pregnant either because THAT would kill her too. Soooo, when she goes into heat we have to be very very vigilant with her.
