We have to put our dog down today I've never had to deal with this before, and I didn't realize how hard it is. A big part of me knows that he's not going to get better, and he's just suffering, waiting for us to make the decision. Another part of me just wishes he'd suddenly get better, start eating, and running around the yard like he used to. But...he's about 10 years old, so that's not going to happen. Over the past few weeks, his appetite has gone down, to the point that he won't eat anything at all now. The only thing he is consuming at this point is water. He doesn't want to come in the house, and just lies out in the yard. If he gets up to move to another spot, it takes him forever to get there. He has no energy at all.
My husband and I discussed it this morning, and I called to make the appointment for this afternoon. I'm crying as I type this. My daughter is coming home to visit on Sunday. I haven't told her yet.
Soxx...you've been a great dog. I hope we made your life as happy as you made ours. We'll miss you.
