My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It is very VERY hard...but a part of me likes to believe that the animal knows we are only doing what we think is the kind thing to do. I believe in the end...they are thankful for all the love we have shown them...and that we are strong enough to care for them to the end.

My husband is a vet. He always says his theory is animals will let you know when they are ready. Sounds like you feel Soxx is. It's a great thing that you are doing what you feel is right for him. Good luck.

carol, I'm so sorry to read this. Even when you know it is the "right" thing it doesn't make it one ounce easier. My thoughts are with you today! Remember that loosing an animal is a difficult thing no matter what people say. My dad says it is harder since dogs, unlike people, never do anything mean to you...they just show that unconditional love no matter what we seem to do.

Oh, I am so sad. I am feeling for you. I have always had dogs since I was a baby and I am in my 30's. Have 2 dogs right now. I know it was a tough decision but no matter how hard it is, we always do what is best for our animals.

Thank you so much to everyone who posted here, and those who sent good wishes through PMs and reps. I really appreciate it! It helps so much to have someone to talk to about this.

Taking Soxx for his last ride in the car was the so sad. I sat in the back seat with him, while my husband drove. We had to lift him into the car, since he wasn't walking too well. But, once we started driving, he seemed to perk up. He stuck his head out the window and let the wind blow his ears back. He looked so happy...for the first time in weeks! When we got there, my husband went in first, and I had a chance to say goodbye by myself. I told Soxx that he was a good dog, and that we will really miss him. At that moment, he reached his paw out, and put it on my leg...as if to tell me that it was ok! I never cried so hard in my life! Then, my husband came out to the car. When he took ahold of his leash, I think Soxx forgot that he couldn't get out on his own. He tried, and ended up falling out of the car. After that, he couldn't put any weight on his back legs. He didn't cry...he just looked at us like he needed help. The people at the shelter came out and helped him into the building. They reminded us that we were doing the right thing. They said it was the last kind thing you can do for your pet. They were so comforting, and so good with him. We didn't stay and sit with him. We both knew that we couldn't take it. And we both cried all the way home.

I miss him alot. The house isn't the same without him. The paw prints on the throw rugs make me cry. The bag of uneaten food makes me cry. And that empty space in the spare room where his cage used to be really makes me cry! I know that it will get easier in time. But I can tell you that I'm in no hurry to get another dog. It will probably be a very long time before we even think about it.

OMG Xufan, I'm so sorry for your loss. Reading the details is making me cry. It's amazing how close we get with our pets, it's too bad they don't have a longer life span, it just too hard loosing them.

im so sorry for your loss.. as some say animals.. we all get very attacted to them as if they are our " little children" some dont see that but I do and I am certain you thought of soxx as your baby. Im sorry for your loss and within time you will heal your broken heart. but with great memories to cherish forever :) **HUgs**
