SAD My baby was drugged...Grrr!

My husband just picked up our Border Collie from a local groomer and she was obviously drugged. She is normally super hyper (her breed) and she is wayyyy too laid back and lethargic.
If they don't want to do her or think she needs to be tranquilized then why not just be upfront and let me know and I can be there when you do her and give her commands or just don't do her. It's not like there aren't other places in this town. It just irks me that they do this without my consent. They of coarse deny it and I won't go back. They (prior to new owners) have done her just fine for years without drugging. The new owners need some more education or !
Has this happened to anyone else?
(just needed to vent...thanks)

Yes, this happened to my dog at a large chain.... they did not ask me for permission... I have not gone back since, and will not even buy food there because I was IRATE. The sad thing is, that I didn't even recognize his behavior until I had asked the vet for some of those pills to help him travel, and he explained to me what the pills actually do... Upon giving duff a half dose a couple of days before the travel as sort of a trial run.... when I saw how they affected him I felt horrible for giving him the pill, and I called my husband because I was going to go up to this certain chain pet store and give them a piece of my mind if he didn't talk me out of it......

I am so sorry that this happened to you and your pet. I think you can have a blood test done for your pet at the vet to see if the meds are in their system. Sorry, I don't know the cost.

I would be talking to someone about that. In my area a few years ago a pet was taken into a groomers, it was one of those smaller dogs, and they drugged it and ended up giving it too much or it reacted with meds it was on, whatever they did it killed the dog. That is insane to me someone would do that, especially without speaking to you first.

Can another person, besides a vet, tranq your animal? Anyone know if this is even legal?

Not sure, I know that you have to have a "prescription" to even get these meds - my vet just happens to fill most med orders right there. So I don't know what these groomers are doing with a stash of them.

Oh no no no no no no. That is WRONG! I would take your dog to the vet NOW and have them double check your dog. Your word against theirs won't do if something happens. You need proof.

Then I'd call the owner (or corporate if this is a chain place) and complain. Then I would spread the word in the local pet community. That is BS. If someone ever did that to my dogs they would get more than a piece of my mind I tell ya.

I hope your dog is okay.

Totally in agreement with kval, if I had understood what was going on with my dog when I picked him up from the evil chain place that must not be named, I would have been going straight to the vet and then straight to whoever gets those people in trouble. They have no right to medicate your dog without your permission - there is a reason that a dog requires a checkup and a prescription for these meds, they are serious stuff!

I think you need to take your dog to the vet now. If she was drugged the vet will do a drug screen and you will have proof even in light of their denial. If she indeed was not drugged, something else is producing the lethargy and should be checked out in my opinion. I can't imagine that a groomer would do this because of the possible liability but from what others have posted it does happen. Hope your dog is OK.
