ITA. This is WRONG and you need proof via bloodwork. I can't believe something like this even happened. Please keep us posted.

oh no :( please don't tell me it was petsmart... I take both my little guys there for grooming...

I would end up in jail, and this is no joke. I am VERY protective over my babies and will go bonkers on someone....

OP, take them to a vet, and i would also ask the vet on information regarding "drugging" animals and NOT being a vet :-/

I use to work at a kennel with a groomer attached and yes some do use a sedative for the harder to handle animals. Unfortunately they don't ask first and by all means I am not in anyway condoning this behavior (I can't stand the thought of the fact they may have done it to my baby) but it happens way more than you think with groomers. It's also prescribed by the vets for traveling with your animal. Bottom line I guess is where ever you go for grooming always assume they will use it and request them NOT if your pet is hard to handle (in there eyes) you want to know about it FIRST.... just like the expression of the anal gland. They automatically do this without letting you know. I never let them no matter where I take my pets to get groomed I always tell them NOT to express the anal gland. It is unnecessary (and if it was nessesary why wouldn't you want the vet to do it instenad of a groomer with no medical background) and once they start messing with it it needs to be done more and more often until it gets out of hand and it needs to be done two and three times a month. Ask questions and don't be afraid to tell them what you DON"T want as well as what you want!

manders, mine was petsmart. You don't even wanna know how Duff was acting when I picked him up.... and they were real funny about "going to see if he was ready" when I popped in 15 minutes early since I didn't see him on the table and I was ready to go home if he was.......

Yeah, duff was 10 pounds at the time, he's only 20 now --- but you know, if you use the same person each time, and you are upfront with them - hey even write it on the form that they make you sign that says that they are not under sedation when you bring them in. I think if they go against your written wishes they could really get in some trouble.

I just will not be taking Duff back there. He's been going to this other privately owned groomer in my neighborhood since then and they let him roam around the back area of the shop where the grooming is going on while he waits his turn or to be picked up, and they only take as many dogs at one time as they have groomers, so they don't wait around all day.... I hate that petsmart drugged my pup, but on the other hand, now Duff has a super great groomer that he always likes going to :)

Default Re: My baby was drugged...Grrr!

I just called the lady who grooms lil dude and bri,

I told her about this thread and i told her about problems i've heard about and now i'm leary. She told me to tell EVERYONE, if your dog/cat/hamster/ANYTHING went in to get groomed, and it was "sedated" to PLEASE call the manager or coporate...
It is AGAINST policy to EVER drug a dog. She had me go pull my paperwork from their last visit, and it says RIGHT there, that if the dog has been given sedation for ANY reason with in the last 48hours they will not groom them. They also will not groom if they went to the vet and got shots with in the last 72 hours.*she also mentioned it is illegal for them to give any animal ANY type of sedation, tranq etc, etc etc.....

I've never had a problem with the lady or any of the staff, and have been going there for over a year. I have no reason not to believe them. Brian hates being groomed so he does act a little off but zinger (lil dude) is always just as hyper... (Brian feels violated and then has an attitude with us for a few hours for taking him here lol)

So for the sake of your fubaby, if you've had this terrible thing happen, PLEASE report it!

That's awesome that you called, Manders. Like I said earlier, I wish I would have recognized his behavior because I would have taken care of it right away, and I felt so bad that I didn't once I figured it out.

I'm glad your pups are with a good groomer :)

I can't believe that this happens - makes me happy I groom my own dog! I would definitely call and write to complain.

Wow.......this doesn't even seem like it would be legal? I'm very sorry that happened to your baby! That is just awful and I would be more than irate. If it is illegal then I would have your vet draw blood to get proof.
