    Default Sick Doggie

Hubby just called and said Lucky is vomitting water. Ahhh. My poor baby the Vet is closed and all we have is the 24 hr animal hospotal. I called them and they said they always recommend the dog coming in.

Lucky is a 7 year old American Bull dog. We've been watching her since Tuesday night, and thought was was doing better but when hubby got home he said she vomitted by the door. Her diarrhea stated Wednesday morning @ 1:30 and she had to go every hour. Hubby made her Hambuger and rice and she was eating that since then. Diarrhea stoped then she was eating, drinking and pooping normal she just had really bad gas. We had no issues at all yesterday. Then today she vomitting everything up. I just don't know what to do???

He said she is in great spirits but she always is. She split her toe open once and was still happy.

    Does anyone have any ideas?
I think I'm just going to go to 24 hospital after work...

is there anything she could be eating that would be making her sick? think of where she was when she was sick and where she wasnt when she wasnt sick....kwim? my first guess would be she is getting into something (eating, drinking) that is making her sick...

but, irregardless, i would take her to the vet. dogs do get sick like we do, but to be better and then get sick again...

poor baby, i hope she starts to feel better.

I would definitely take her in. With stuff coming out both ends, she must be dehydrated. Just drinking water won't get her back to 100%.

Well my hubby brought her in last night 11:30 to 2:30 we just couldn't stand to see her in so much pain and not know how to help. $610 later all test came back great. No issues the Dr said she was dehydrated. It just makes me made that I already knew that. What caused this and is it going to happen again? The good this is they did give her some medication to help stop the vomitting and diarhhea, and they also injected fluid under her skin she had a huge water bubble on her back. She snuggled me and slept well. We shall see how today goes. I'm hoping she gets better. It's hard to see her this way and me not knowing whats wrong. The dr said boiled chicken and rice for the next couple of days until her belly was straight.

I hope she starts to feel better. I got tired of spending all my money at the vet (over $2,000 easy in one year) so my trainer gave me the idea of fasting. Next time she is vomitting or diarrehea give her nothing for 24 hours!!! If you don't put anything in nothing can come out. Once she stops for a perios start with a tablespoon of pumpkin about every hour. SLOWLY but surely incorporate one thing at a time. After she's had 24 hours of pumpkin and isn't coming out both ends, I would give her chicken and then in another 24 hours chicken and rice. You have to start from scratch and give her body time to heal. Sorry you couldn't try this this time but hope I helped for next! Good Luck and hope she feels better.

Thanks. She's still vomitting water ever so often this morning. So i've just been let her drink a little then rest. She wants it but just can't hold it down.

Never thought about Pumpkin is there something in it to help or is it just a mild food for them to hold down???

In my experience, you feed pumpkin to induce pooping.

Thanks for all the advise. I think she may be starting to feel better. It's been a long weekend. Lots of wash and cleaning. I still can't get the poop smell out of my head. She finally ate a little today.

Canned pumpkin is very high in fiber, you use it to firm up stool.

They didn't send her home with an anti-emetics (anti vomiting) meds or anti-diarrheals? And when you say tests, what kind of tests? Just bloodwork or radiographs too?

If they didn't send you home with meds, I would call back & ask for some. Yes, you'll have to pay for them, but they really shouldn't charge you for another visit.
