Default Opinions on Cat Litter

I'm still experimenting with different brands of cat litter for my 2 indoor cats. I spent the first few months using clay litter and found that to be a real pain. The clumping type is expensive but of course lasts longer and is so worth it for the convenience. But sometimes there is a lot of crumbling of the clumps into tiny pieces. I do clean out the clumps twice daily for 2 cats that are about 9 months old. I'd like opinions on which brands of clumping litter you use and info on which brands have the most coupons available.

When I used clumping litter, I found that I preferred Fresh Step, which I would buy in a large bucket at Costco.

Now, I use pine litter exclusively. Less tracking, better odor control, and much healthier for the cats.

When I used clay litter I used Fresh Step multiple cat formula. Unfortunately, I developed a horrible allergy to it and now use Swheat Scoop, a wheat litter. It doesn't clump fantastically, and a lot of the urine sinks to the bottom of the pan, so scraping with the scooper is necessary. But I don't have raging sinus headaches everyday and my cats no longer smell like clay litter dust.

I use the crystal kind of litter. The vet said it is the best for cats. It is white with blue crystals in it. It is 4.xx at Walmart and it doesn't track on the ground hardly at all. I scoop all day long though because I am a fanatic and don't want anything in the box, lol.

I use Tidy Cats, the new formula. It's awesome! The clumps don't seem to break up and the smell is almost non existant...and I have 7 cats! I was using supa dupa cheap $2.xx a bag non clumping clay litter and just throwing it out and washing the boxes each week but that is a pain. So the TC went BOGO at Publix and I got a ton of them so that is how I ended up trying the new TC. I do like Arm & Hammer clumping too but it's more $$.

When I had four cats, I found Fresh Step to be the best. Not cheap, but it was the best for clumping and odor control
I also found that feeding the cats the free food(Purina, Cat Chow etc, made for much more scooping and pooping)
The more $$ foods actually do produce much less waste. I am now back to Science Diet because my cats are old and have issues otherwise and I use Tidy Cat(still prefer Fresh Step and will buy when I can catch a sale)

So that is my 2 C worth!

I prefer the Tidy Cat with the blue crystals the best. The Arm & Hammer has a funny odor to it to me, didn't like it at all. Tried the pine litter to avoid the dust and tracking but "the boys" wouldn't use it! :shrug7:

I love the Essentials by Arm and Hammer. It is made of corn fibers and baking soda that really does well with odor control. The clumping isn't bad either. It is sort of pricey, about 7.00 for 7 lbs. but, IMHO, it is worth it.

the clay (IMHO) is usless...lol. no odor control at all. i have been using Fresh Step scoopable (have 6 cats) and it works pretty well. good clumping, good odor control as long as you scoop it regularly.

this last time, i got arm & hammer since i had a coupon, seems to be working as well as the FS and was a bit less ($10xx at walmart for like a 21 lb box)

I would really like to use a non-clay based litter for eco reasons, but our cats won't have it. If I had my way, I'd use the World's Best (corn based). It's more expensive but clumps great.

But, to keep the peace, I use Pet Supplies Plus' brand "Premium Choice." $10 for 40 lb bags, so a great value, and it's unscented. It clumps decently.
