Default Re: Fleas on newborn kittens! What do I do??

The mama has to have them, that's how the babies got 'em I am sure.
I used Advantage when I brought home my siamese and she was infested. However there is an AGE minimum for that kind of stuff. I am sure if you go into like petsmart with a Banfield vet and just ask someone there what they recommend.
Shampoo's and flea collars did nothng for my other cats that somehow got fleas(strictly indoor cats).
I also bought a box of Borax, I washed any and every blanket that my animals were on or near with it. I also sprinkled it on the carpet and let it sit...then vaccumed it up.
Good Luck - so sorry...fleas are so irritating.

My vet said 8 weeks or two pounds before she would give a topical treatment. Whatever you do, DON'T buy Hartz or an OTC 'generic' version of a topical. I've read reports on many cats getting seriously ill or dying from those!

Wikipedia says it's not "acutely toxic." IMO I would use care in vacuuming/cleaning thoroughly after using Borax around pets or kids. Here's the Wiki entry if you wish to read it: Borax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

salt works too if you don't want to use borax. just sprinkle let sit and vacuum. We had a massive flea problem last year, and that's WITH all our pets treated. The fleas had become resistant to what we were using. We had to bomb the house four times. Best thing was treating the source of the problem outside where the fleas came from. We used Cutter insect control. It screws onto the hose and you spray your yard with it. Works great.

I second this,no chemicals used and it helps the kitties get used to human handling.

I suggest taking momma & babies to the vet & getting their advice.

There's a natural product called "de flea" made by a company called Natural Chemistry that we used on our dog once before. I remember reading it was safe for kittens and nursing cats. We bought it from Petco.

Good luck!

Yup, plain old table salt. We used it on our couches and chairs when we got them.
