Default Heartgard-Best price?

I am looking to stock up on Heartgard for Chester. Where do you get it the cheapest, either in-store or online? I have usually gotten it from the vet, so I'm out of the loop when it comes to getting it elsewhere. Any help appreciated!

Does your vet have an online pharmacy? Many vets do these days, in order to carry less inventory, while still being able to offer their clients choices, and knowing that their clients are getting safe products. There are generic versions of Heartgard out now (I know of Tri-Heart and Iverhart), that they would probably carry. If not, your vet may be able to order them for you.

I just received a coupon in the mail from my vet's office. It says save $6 on 6 dozes or $12 on 12 doses. It looks like a MIR though. Maybe ask your vet ?
I just googled a Mail In Rebate for it and there are a few out here you can just print off if you can not get a rebate from your vet.

Pets Megastore : Discount Pet Vet Supplies discount medical supplies for pets

I have ordered from them for years and they have some great prices. You don't even need a RX, but I would highly recommend that your dog be tested for heartworms before beginning preventative. It is my undestanding that if you give preventative to a heartworm positive dog that you could kill them.

I have done some research and talked to my vet and have decided to go an even cheaper route this year. We ordered swine/cattle ivermectin from upco.com and got more heartworm preventative for 2 dogs than we will even be able to use for $26.50. The expiration date is over 2 years from now. Fyi, the doseage that some people are posting on the internet (0.1 cc per 10#) is too high. My vet was kind enough to calculate the correct doseages for me.

Another FYI, if you do not buy the heartgard from your vet directly, and your dog happens to get heartworm, heartgard will not pay for the treatment. They will only pay for heartworm treatment if the heartgard is purchased directly from a licensed vet.

You decide if that matters to you.

I read about this online when trying to shop around also, I called heartgard to confirm.

That always makes me laugh.... why would your dog get heartworms IF they were on heartgard??

anyways, foster and smith have the same guarantee on their website, so there are online places you can order from and still have the guarantee....

I order from www.petshed.com for generic heartgard. The ingredient is still the same (ivermectin) and my 3 have been on it for yrs with no issues.

Not true!! It is a GREAT idea to have your dogs tested yearly, but in most light cases of heartworms---heartgard is what is used in a 12 month dosage to get rid of them.......

I'm not sure where you live but my vet has told me about numerous cases here in FL that he had to treat for heartworms even though the dog was on the preventative. There are masses of mosquitos down here during different months and if a dog is swarmed, there is a chance they'll get it, or so I'm told. The preventative is just that, it's not foolproof.

I'm in mosquito-ville Tx

could be many reasons the stuff doesn't work:

dog didn't chew the chewables but swallowed it

mosquitos in the months they aren't given preventatives b/c humans think mosquitos are all dead

like our own immune systems, a lot of dogs need to switch meds from time to time b/c it will stop working. I know with mine we have to swap flea meds b/c they stop working when used too much

I use 1800petmeds. Use the coupon code 420rx to get $20 off any order that has a prescription in it. I just got the generic form of Heartguard- iverhart. It was 29.99 for the 6 pack for dogs 51-100 pounds. So it was 9.99 plus 4.99 shipping (orders over $39 are free but I worked it out and it's better for me to do multiple small orders and pay for shipping). $15 for a 6 pack is good for me.
