You should have a spay/neuter program in your area. They will lend you a live trap that you bait with tuna, catch a cat, take it in, they spay/neuter it, ear-notch it, then release it back out. The live traps are typically big enough -- and that cat mostly frozen in fear -- that you aren't in any real danger unless you provoke it in the small space.
If you do that, I *highly* recommend that you put the cat and cage in the bed of a truck instead of your back seat. The stress will cause the animal to urinate and you will spend a small fortune getting that smell out of your car (speaking from experience). :) Good luck! |
