There is a $2.50 Kaytee brand pet bird food printable coupon in the database. If you use them on the smallest bags, you can probably get relatively cheap bird food. I haven't checked the stores around though, so I don't know the prices.

If you have any farm supply stores (like Tractor Supply) nearby, check there to see if they sell it in larger bags for less. Watch for sales there as well. You might mix the pet bird food in with some wild bird food, but I'm wondering if the pet bird kind has all the seeds and nutrients that wild birds may need... HTH!

Check out my avatar-- my sweet tortie Annie is not fond of cameras, so this is an online look-a-like! Ain't she a cutie?
I too suggest looking at a farm supply store and watch for sales. We have a local farm store that sells it pretty cheap when on sale.
Also buying it in bulk in this case usually saves you money. The bigger the bag the cheaper it usually is per lb. I buy 25 lb bags of birdseed at a time. Although I am never sure if I am feeding the birds, or providing my cat with an all-you-can-eat buffet. LOL

I second what HopeKY94 said about Tractor Supply Company. I know they're throughout the southeast and I THINK they're starting to move into the northern states too but not sure. Fleet Farm (located mostly in Minnesota and Wisconsin) is my choice when I'm visiting my Mom there. I also agree with QueenoftheHiveMomof5 in that buying bulk generally saves money. Comparing the price of smaller bags at Walmart and Home Depot to the larger bags at TSC, Fleet Farm, the Coop, has show that in my area.
I can't quote the price at Fleet Farm right now but at Tractor Supply Company, a 50 pound bag of black oil seeds is 19.99, down from a high of 24.99 last summer. Tractor Supply seems to run a 17.99 special every so often, but I haven't seen that special be very consistant. Sometimes though, TSC reduces a bag that has broken/torn. Usually there isn't much missing, so I always try to grab that bag for an even better deal!
Anyway, I'm always hunting for deals on blackoil sunflower seeds as the birds seem to prefer those seeds and waste less, as opposed to the more millet or milo based feeds that they toss on the ground in favor of the sunflower seeds. (We have lots of cardinals, nuthatches, chickadees, mourning doves, indigo buntings, blue jays, just to give you a basis of comparison.) Believe it or not, DH and I also mix a cup of black oil seeds in our horses' feed as they are tremendous for hoof health and mane/tail growth. Even our farrier asked what we were doing so different and he has become a believer. Ok, I'm rambling...
Hope some of that helps!
If you have a ...ACE HARDWARE....chk there...ours has it on sale, sometimes......we stock up...!!
You are right, it's getting more expensive...but I love watching my ..Red Bird ..family....![]()
As stated above..Go to an actual farm feed store, buy it in 50 lb bags, MUCH cheaper!
Petco has their 40lb bags of wild bird seed on sale until 1/31 for $9.99.
