Dogs for sale

This is the closest forum I could find that matched my topic in any way. I'm looking at buying a hybrid dog. (Doodle) I would rather not pay HUGE amounts of money (which is why I'm bringing this to HCW) on a puppy.

I have a Doodle already that was less then a hundred bucks, and now I'm thinking I got way lucky on him? Cause everything else I'm finding is over 3 clams.

I'm in North Houston (Conroe area) and I'll tavel quite a bit around here for a good deal. So my questions are thus:

A) Where do I begin to look for a dog for sale?
B) Have any of you gone through the same thing before and found some good places where people have ads?
C) Do any of you have contacts or work in shelters and know of a pet in need that I might be interested in?

IMO I would not spend money on a doodle..

my background is 15 years of grooming, behavior training and rescue.

I think for one there are many who have already been purchased and need homes, two you are paying for a name brand not a good product.. as a couponer you can appreciate a good value..

the cost of a dog usually has little to do with the actual value of the dog. I have seen good quality dogs go for less than shotty ones.. depends on the intent of the seller

as these dogs are basically designer mutts, its harder to get a pedigree on them.. I have seen so many with such horrible coat I dread seeing them come thru the door.. even tho they are a $60+ groom dog.. not to mention they seem a bit loopy

your best bet to find a furry friend right now is petfinder.. most of the shelters and resuces are using h tis naitonal format to palce dogs

Check petfinders.com. It lists pets available from many different shelters. You can narrow down your search by breed, location, age, size, etc. You work with the shelter directly, it just hosts the information. We adopted our latest from there in September.

I got THE BEST 16 wk. old purebred lab a year ago on Craigslist. A very nice family lost their jobs and their home, moved in with a family member, puppy was not welcome. He cost me nothing and is the sweetest, smartest, most beautiful dog. He's passed out on the couch next to me right now. Now, THAT's value!

I think doodles are great dogs! I considered adopting one myself before I found "Lucky". I see them on KC Craigslist occasionally. Since you're in a major metro, you might check it out!

My guess is you got lucky with the first one - that's a good price. I live in the Houston area and I know there are lots of rescue leagues around here for various types of purebreds that are no longer able to live with their owners. You still pay an adoption fee but you know you're helping give a needy pet a home. I know most of the pet shelters around here were overwhelmed after Ike and many of them are still full.
I got one of my pets from the Homeless Pet Placement League hppl(dot)org. CAPS is another great place here in town worth checking out.
