We had a juvenile turtle at one point that we raised snails and guppies for. He was pretty easy. I've got a decent feed store in the area that carries huge bags of rabbit and rat/hamster food, so we buy in bulk. I supplement the rodents with a seed mix and the bunnies get the veggie deals. I try to buy root veggies with the greens still on them for them and Iggy.

we have a bunny...once in a blue moon Petsmart will put the bedding on sale..that's it..
she's really picky about toys...if it's labeled a "rabbit" toy she won't touch it...I didn't realize she could read but apparently she can! so we go to the dollar store and buy baby toys-any hard plastic that can't be bitten through and can stand up to be tossed!

I made bird toys for my mom's IRN all the time...it's pretty easy to do..you can get parts on ebay pretty cheap..I hunt the dollar store and craft stores too...finger traps to shred ( string on a shoelace), wooden spools..his fav so far is just made out of different sizes of plastic bottle caps...any natural fiber items are good....wicker baskets....stuff the finger traps and other toys in the weave of the basket...put other toys in the basket....he's busy for hours..

wow! look at the nails on the smaller one! We have a RES too...it's about the size of your larger one...eats pellets like a PIG...but I agree...the aquarium filters are what cost. The pellets are $3 or $4 at WM but they last a good while. Oh, any my RES LOVES LOVES LOVES flies!! We found this out when she caught one that got into her tank one day. Now, my kids will swat flies that are in the house and dump them in her tank...she gobbles them down! Also buy filters at WM...but go through alot more of those so that's the biggest expense with the turtle. They are alot of fun to watch though! :)

we had 10 hamsters (yes 10! aparently the store was wrong, they were not brothers! and we had 8 babies!) we were always at the sore in the early morning to get them, the veggies that were about to be tossed, hmm I wonder if you could make a deal with the produce guy/girl, and have him/her put some veggies aside, since its for animals......
I know that there use to be a coupon that came in the inserts every once in awhile for hartz small animal food (i think thats what it was)

The smaller turtle with the long nails and the longer tail is the male. The larger turtle has shorter nails and a shorter tail is the female.

Wait til you see the male try to mate with the female. It's freaking funny.
