I have seen the tripling/overage get really messy when taxable items are figured into it. They don't handled the tax correctly, but it usually ends up working in my favor.
I have also seen the overage get mixed up on multiple items in the same MFR. So, in your case, if you had 5 cutrites and they were on sale for $1 each, and you used 5 of the $.50/1 MFR coupons, you'd get overage on the first 4 they triple, but the last one might "double" to only .80 or so, since it thinks the first 4 used up a nickel each.
But most of the time, what eiramnoaj has posted covers the overage at A&P nicely.
