Fred's Discount Store ~ Roll call for Fred's Discount Store Shoppers!!

I live just south of Memphis. Just so happens that the headquarters are in Memphis. Hmm. We've got a ton of stores around here. I usually go to Freds when I just need a few items and don't feel like fighting the WM crowd.

When I was in college (which was only like, two years ago), one of my professors family owned Fred's. Rumor has it that he's the youngest son, his mom was dying for him to get married and have a son to carry on the name. (he only had neices) *smirk* Too bad I wasn't the gold-digger type. lol

I live in Tennessee. Today was my first day couponing at Freds. I'd never have known about their doubles had it not been for this forum. I talked with the assistant manager who said that in the past, Fred's had doubled Qs as large as a dollar. She said the company has started testing dollar doubles again but she wasn't certain if it will become a regular policy. She said one reason it ended was because of people requestion multiple transactions in order to overcome the 1 per like item policy. I guess it slowed down transaction times and required more staffing, though that's only my guess. I used to work in retail management and I could see where that would cause a need for more labor without much of a return as labor is always a store's biggest controlable expense. (Sorry, sounding like a corporate chick again...bad me.)

She advised me (as did a clerk on the floor) that a good way to get around the 1 per item issue was exactly what was mentioned here in another post; get your addition items in different "flavors/scents, etc" as the register will usually then allow the double. Works for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I shop a Fred's some. It's across the road from where I live. I mostly go on Saturday with double q's. I've done pretty good getting DS shoes there too.

Question about Freds coupons. If I have a dollar coupon, they wont double it like it was $.70 cents? Seems like an odd question I know. But I feel like I'm missing out on 40 cents ~ lol.

I have a Fred's in my small town in Texas ( that and CVS , dollar general and family dollar are ALL I have in this lil town!:sad:)
Would love to see some scenarios of great deals for Fred's. I don't go there often but need to start going on Saturday on double coupon day for sure!

Hi there! They only double up to 70 cents, and only the first coupon if you have 2 or more of the same coupon. I hope that helps! I wish they would double at 75 cents, lol. I have plenty of those!

Went to Fred's this afternoon. THey are discontinuing some foods. I got Banquet Home Bake boxed ($3.50 at the grocery) for 85 cents. Pillsbury Brownie bags for 25 cents, Kelloggs cereal for 75 cents a box and some other stuff. I am sure it will go fast, but I am going to check back tomorrow for add'l items. The cashier said they are changing quite a few things.
