Other National Chain Store ~ Question: Big Lots ~ any body buy furniture

I have a friend who bought bunk beds there for her children. She painted them and they have held up well over the years. I could not believe she bought them there -- she's one of those people that you wouldn't believe EVER set foot in discount stores -- but like I said, she really loves them. Her kids are rough on furniture too, so it must be good quality stuff.

DH and I bought our couch at Big Lots a little over a year ago, and we're really happy with it. For us, it was a good deal and I think it will hold up for quite a while. We're thinking about buying a bed there next.

HAHA! I can;t believe that someone asked this question! DH and I always joke that BIG LOTS has furnished our home! OUr dining set, couch, recliner, entertainment center, DS bunk beds, book shelfs, and a few other things, ALL came from BIg LOTs.

I have never been a big fan of discount stores either, but with small kids, it seemed really ridiulous to sink a lot of money into expensive furniture. Also, where we live, there isan't a ton of options.

Overall, I LOVE everything I have bought from there. Some of it is brand name, some isan't. My kids use furniture like jungle gyms, and everything has help up remarkably well.

My hubby and I bought our bedroom set...queen bed and dresser there three years ago and you wouldn't know it. They are cherry and still in great condition.

We used to have a couch and loveseat from there. I don't know if I'd do it again. The problem that I had was that the cushions weren't removable, so you couldn't flip them, and the middle of the couch got saggy and not as cushy. We kept them for five years, and they were still in good enough shape to pass on to someone else, so I suppose that we did get our money's worth out of them. I'm just not sure I'd do it again.

I have couch and loveseat too. Was all for under $500,it is in very good cond. after 2 years...But have the same problem as MeghanR says..

I just bought a desk there on Sunday for $29. I saw the same exact desk at Wal-Mart for $39. So I got a good deal!

Thanks for starting this topic OP. My dh and I have been thinking about buying furniture there. Now after the reviews, I think we will. New for Craigslist prices.:wink068: BTW, the couches at our store have removable cushions. Maybe they have been upgrading lines in the last year or so.

I've noticed that our local big lots furniture has some discount or no-name brands that they carry all the time--some seem to be good prices for medium-ish quality furniture, some great prices for great quality, and some crappy prices for low quality. Just like anywhere else, actually :D. Then, they randomly have close outs from other furniture stores--so the same exact furniture I would have purchased at a large furniture store for 1/2 price or less. Usually, they don't have a lot of these items, so if I'm looking for something specific--a couch, for example--I'll just shop frequently, chat with the employees to ask about deliveries, etc. I bought my mother a BEAUTIFUL computer armoire this way a couple of years ago--we had seen it at a local furniture store on sale for around $700, and I ended up getting it for her at BL for just under $200 several months later.
