Other National Chain Store ~ Question: JoAnn Fabrics ~ Is JoAnn's in trouble??

Okay so I had to get a second job.
I applied numerous places(even JoAnn's)
...I was hired by Michael's craft store. Upon walking around the store the assistant manager told me that Michael's sales were ahead this year in sales versus last year and that he heard a confirmed rumor that the local JoAnn's were closing. I kind of shrugged him off because it didn't seem feasible to me...JoAnn's is always so much busier than Michael's.
Does anyone know about this? JoAnn's is not closing is it??

This Assistant Manager at Michael's really doesn't seem too bright at all. While doing new hire paperwork I had to actually tell him where to sign and how to input stuff into the computer. I really felt kind of bad for him.

I don't know if they are closing or not, but it would be sad to see one of the few places that still sell fabric close. I love their 1/2 off clearance fabric sale.

I will say that as far as craft supplies they don't seem to keep up with current styles and their regular prices are a lot higher than Michael's & AC Moore. And then their sales aren't as good either.

The one here closed just last week, I was so sad. We just moved here and I finally found it and it was closing.

Ours moved to a larger location a couple of months ago.

A huge one just opened near me, and the two others that I know of in the area are still going strong. perhaps it's just your area. We have plenty of competition too, AC Moore and Michaels, and several other fabric stores. Always people at the Joann's... I love that place! :D

Mine in town is still open ,but my mom who lives in another state just closed

I'm wondering if they're trying to get rid of the older locations and focus on their larger superstores. There was an original Jo-Anns right up the road from me that closed a couple of years ago, but we have a large superstore in the next town over. Maybe a possibility?
