I love JoAnn's - I was wondering if anyone knew if there was something sent out by the company regarding the closures.
We had one in our shopping area and it closed. Then 2 more in the outerbanks of Cincy closed.
Can you really ask at this point and time though if anyone is going to stay open though? I don't know day to day if im going to have a job and EVERY one around here will tell you, business is rough! For the sake of Joanne's customers and staff i hope they can grow strong but its just not likley w/o a miracle :(

Our Joann's does a the best business in town - a lot more business than Michael's, which recently revamped and now carries a lot of high end craft supplies. Joann's is the only decent deal anymore.
JoAnn's has indeed been moving to more of the superstore model, especially wherever they established themselves by taking over other companies such as House of Fabrics or New York Fabrics. So if you've been around long enough to know/remember that your store was once something else, it is a good bet that when the lease is up on the property and the market is favorable, your store may get shut down and replaced by a nearby superstore. Mostly because the product mix now just doesn't fit into the floorplans of those stores back when they were purchased.
I wouldn't be too concerned yet. I know there used to be two in the area and they ended up closing the smaller one and then awhile later, a brand new JoAnn's opened on another side of town (next to me!) and I noticed that they had re-hired some of the previous employees from the old store. They don't seem to be in any trouble where I'm at. I live about 2 minutes away, so I go in fairly often. And, they built it in a new, up and coming area that has tons of retail that is doing well. So, I know our store at least appears to be in a good position at this point. It does seem like they are trying to get rid of smaller stores and merge them with newer, bigger stores. I saw the same thing happen with Michael's too around the same time.
The only location nearest me was 12 miles away and this location was not a good area. Their A/C was always breaking down , it was dirty and didnt seem busy to me. I think they had been there for many years too. They closed it down a few months ago. They opened up a new one but it's like 22 miles away!
Not worth a 44 mile trip to get 2-3 yards of fabric :(

It's funny because the other day my husbands and I went by our Joanne's and noticed it was closed, no sign, the store was empty and everything, ad we wondered how we'd missed that it had closed. Then a few days later we went by and it was open as usual, The sign was there and nothing was different. It was sooo, soo bizzare. It was like we had this mutual hallucination. We were so sure we had looked in the windows and it was closed down and empty.

I worked at jo-anns last year and even tho i liked it and the people i worked with i had to find another job. they go by sales so if sales are low you get sent home or just told not to come in for your scheduled shift. i remember not even having hours a few weeks because of that. they also pay low starting wage. i have talked to people who still work there and i am surprised they are still open. the store is a mess because the few people who get to work just cant keep up with it.
A local JoAnns closed, but only to relocate & open up a Super Joanns! I don't know if it's actually called "Super" JoAnns....but it's definitely called something. I haven't been there yet, but from what I've heard, it's huge & has EVERYTHING! Maybe it's called a JoAnn SuperStore? My friend & I were able to catch the last day of the closing sale of the previous sale. Everything we purchased was 95% off! I will remember that day forever I'm pretty sure.
There's another JoAnns (regular) here too that seems to be doing fine. It's been around forever too.

The real tiny store here in the local "small" mall is still open. Hope they don't close this one. The only fabric/crafts place within an hours' drive!! And the Wal-Mart in the same mall closed down their crafts section. :(
