When it comes to price adjustments and using a coupon, how does that work?

For example, if you were to go buy items that are full price but use a 50/100 coupon and then the items go on sale later for half off, how are the clothes adjusted? Half off full retail (the original price) or half off the after-coupon price or ... ?? Thanks.

One store told me they will honor sale prices regardless of using a coupon or not up to 14 days =)
