    QUESTION Best Buy ~ Price Match Question

    I bought a TomTom at Best Buy for $125 which came with a free $40 Gift Card. The have the same TomTom on their website for $99 with a free $10 Gift Card. The store manager said that the free gift card should be deducted from the $125 when doing the price match.

    Thus $125 - 40 = $85
    $ 99 - 10 = 89
    He said I got a better price therefore, the price match does not work.

    Is he correct? I do not think the free $40 gift card should be included.

    Price matching is a courtesy, not a right. Further, you are not entitled to a price adjustment. Per their website:

    Regarding PM other retailers:

    How do you handle a price match if the Best Buy price includes a promotional offer such as a free gift card or rebate?
    The Best Buy net purchase price is calculated by deducting the value of all instant and mail-in discounts such as rebates, free offers and promotional gift cards. Existing rebates and free offers associated with a product purchased at Best Buy will not apply if a price match is executed.

    And their own price guarantee, as gift cards are "gift with purchase" items:
    How does your Price Guarantee cover "gift-with-purchase" orders?
    If you purchased an item through a promotion that included a free gift, and if the price of that item drops online or in our store, our Price Guarantee does not apply.

    If you exchange/return something with a giftcard, you have to give the g/c back. If you've spend it, then they wil deduct the $40 from the price that you paid because you got the GPS to get the giftcard. So, if you still have the $40 giftcard, I'd bring it back, because even though you are getting a lower giftcard now, you are paying a lower OOP price. If you've spent the giftcard though, I'd leave it beacause after they deduct the $40 from the price of the GPS, you'll be paying more $. Hope this helps!

    Oh, and Best Buy will always price match, either their own site/ad or a competitors ad up to the return policy (14-30 days). I worked there for 2 years, they want to build customer loyalty and price matching will always keep the customer happy, so, they are always willing to PM!
