JoAnn Fabrics ~ Who Taught You How To Sew?

I learned to sew when I was in Middle School Home Ec. Anyone else remember those days? lol

I have taken some awesome sewing classes at JoAnn's Fabrics over the last year.

Anyway, who taught you how to sew?

What's your favorite sewing projects?

My grandmother taught me as a child. I do not have a sewing machine of my own - but my mom does. I recently made my twin 3 y.o. batman/batgirl costumes and capes for DH and I for Halloween. I love to sew - but rarely make the time. My favorite thing to make are fabric bags - I love to have fun styles for summer.

My mom taught me and a girlfriend how to sew in middle school. We made doll clothes and it was so much fun !!

My mom tried to ...but it just didn't come naturally to me, like it did to her and my older sisters. She was amazing! She made money, sewing for people. Not just alterations and mending. She did entire weddings, formals for the Art Ball in town, and every one of our Halloween costumes (Raggedy Ann and Andy, Pink Panther, Little Red Riding Hood and her grandma.....). She also made most of our clothes when we were growing up...even winter coats! I remember getting to "that age" where I wanted to wear what everyone else was wearing, but we couldn't afford it. Now, looking back, I realized I was wearing REAL custom-made jeans!

My Mom and 4-H. I made all my dresses and blouses when I was 12 until it became less expensive to buy ready made. Also made my children's clothes until they were pre-teens.

Trust me. The projects were not very complicated at 5 or 6. LOL Just straight sewing on tote bags and stuff. Maybe helping her cut out Tshirts.

I learned in 8th grade Home Ec and LOVED IT!!!
We did a super cool project where we ordered a kit from this company and mine was a hambuger pillow. OH man that hamburger and I had so my "close" times mainly for crying LOL
I also made in the 12th grade my graduation dress all by my little self, I was very proud and had that dress for years.

Oh my gosh I just did a search for pillow kits and I found my hamburger kit!!! Just for old times sake Im going to order this puppy and sew me a brand spankin' new hamburger pillow LOL OH Im so excited now

My mom taught me, even though I really didn't do a lot of sewing until the past 5-6 years. She also taught me to do cake decorating and crocheting. The one thing that I still for the life of me cannot get the hang of is knitting...

She is working with my 10yo DD on making her own quilt on the sewing machine.
