BRUTAL! Price hikes at Big Lots too...

Ugh... I guess I knew it would happen sometime. The bread rack jumped from $1.79 to $2 even. Judging from some other anecdotal comparisons, it seems like most everything has jumped about 10%. Combine that with the fact they can't take coupons, it really makes more sense to hunt the deals at the "coupon accepting" retailers. Guess I'll just have to wait for the 20% off buzz club coupons to make it worth stopping in again. *sigh*

I've found the best deal on bread is at Fred Meyer. Every couple of weeks they have a store coupon for Country Oven bread that is either 3 for $4 or 4 for $5. I usually buy 6 at a time and freeze them since we go through so much bread.

My Big Lots doesn't even carry bread. However, I've noticed the price hikes, too in all departments, especially with the toys. With the current economy, it's no surprise. I still love when I have the time to bargain hunt at Big Lots....

I've noticed the price hike too... It seems like they're trying to compete with regular stores, vs being an outlet, like they're supposed to. I guess I'll have to stick with Ross for toys/clothes, and Grocery Outlet for everything else (that I don't get w/coupons at other stores!! LOL)

Thank you. Currently, I'm not doing much trading, as my mental health has decompensated again, and I'm not doing too well. Thanks for understanding.

I bet you can find a different cheap bread source in your area. We have an awesome Aunt Millie's bread outlet here. I get the healthy and fancy $4 a loaf type breads for 49 cents each. Love that place!! We have a Hostess/Wonder bread outlet, too but the prices are no where near as good there.

Wow, bread is usually $1.20 at my Big Lots. It's one of my favorite things to buy there. I hope ours doesn't go up too.

I think bread is just over $1 at my Big Lots but I'm not certain. I have never bought bread there since I can get it for $0.88 for the nonfancy type at Kroger everyday.

Just to clarify, the bread that used to sell for $1.79 and now $2 normally retails at $4+.

I know this isn't a Big Lots piece of inforamtion, but if you go to the Dolly Madison outlet stores or the natural Ovens outlet store their bread is great quality and it is abouat $2. Not $1 but for good bread, i think it is good.

I've also noticed that the toy prices at Big Lots were just as high or even higher than at some of the retail stores. I had been pricing a jumbo Mr. Potato set at several places. It was 19.99 at Walmart, Toys R Us and Kroger. It was actually 24.99 at Big Lots! I finally found it online for 8.99.
