Okay -- Here's an update. I decided to try Hows today and got some good deals. My impression is that much of the inventory is overpriced, but when they have a good sale with coupon match-ups (which double), then it's worth it to go there for those sale items.
For example, right now they're having a sale on Lawry's fajita and taco seasoning mix at 4 for a $1. With the coupon that's out now (don't remember when it came out) for $1 off 4, you can get 4 seasoning mixes for free, plus since they double, you get $1 overage. I had 3 coupons and they doubled them all so I got 12 seasoning mixes for free, plus $3 overage! Not all the deals were as good as this one, but they weren't bad considering how hard it is to get excellent deals at grocery stores nowadays.
I had to get a raincheck for the the Nutrigrain bars that are on sale now and, just so you know how it works, you just tell the checker and he/she cuts out that part of the ad and puts a stamp and signature on it. A little unusual but, hey, it works for me!
I'm going to keep my eye on the deals there and go when it's worth it. It's just a few miles away, but all the other stores are closer and it seems further with all the traffic lights that aren't in sync on the way. I probably will go when it's on my way home from other errands.
Just thought I'd give an update in case anyone else was as curious as I was about this small chain of stores.
