Last year I was at Meijer at 3 am to get what I needed and the line that was forming for the doorbusters was pretty slim at that time. So yes, get there early.

Everyone thinks I'm nuts to get up early for BF, but I'm going to Meijer where it is warm and I can pull up a chair and drink coffee and read the paper while I wait for the sales to start. The people standing in front of Target for 2 hours are nuts! Plus I get quiet time away from my 2year old.
