Dollar Tree ~ Dealing with Sunday papers at dollar tree...

All of my DTs here in the quad cities (iowa/illinois region) carry the Sunday Paper. On the IA side of the river they are $2.00 on Sunday and $1.00 the rest of the week or as long as they last. On the IL side they are the original $2.00 all week.

I buy the Toledo Blade at Dollar Tree stores every Sunday in addition to my home edition. I've yet to find a week when they didn't have it. It is, of course, $1 as opposed to the newsstand price of $2. My local store told me they sell the paper til it's gone and if they can't sell them all they use the extras as wrapping for breakable items.

Wow. I'm going to have to start going to the Dollar Tree and checking this out!

I regularly buy 3-5 sunday papers at the Dollar Tree in High Ridge. (St.Louis area) I have also seen them at 3 other DT's in my area. They are always only $1. They are gone by around 3pm so you have to get there early if you want one. (or 5!)

I'd fall over dead if I ever saw The Oregonian or any other Newhouse-owned paper** on sale at Dollar Tree/General/Family.

I have a strong hunch that it's not about whether a particular Dollar Tree wants to sell newspapers but whether the local daily wants their papers sold at Dollar Tree. More later ...

Ok so my DT does have Sunday papers for $1 and I picked up the last 4 this weekend. Under the papers on another shelf on the stand they had seperate inserts. I got the four to go with my papers, but about halfway home it dawned on me that since they didn't have anymore papers for people to buy, then I could have asked if I could have the left over inserts. (they had the Betty Crocker Qs) Well I was passing by the store today and I decided to run in and check to see if they were still there. Guess what they were and the cashier said I could have them!!! Whooo 12 extra Betty Crocker Inserts. Awesome.
