Default Tigerdirect To Buy Out Parts of Compusa

TigerDirect parent to buy CompUSA assets - South Florida Business Journal:

Systemax said on Sunday it agreed to buy up to 16 stores from CompUSA, as well as its brand, trademarks and e-commerce business.
Systemax, the parent of Miami-based TigerDirect, put the deal's total cost at about $30 million, depending on which retail locations it takes over.
"We believe the value of the CompUSA brand remains very high," Systemax Chief Executive Officer Richard Leeds said in news release statement. "We view this acquisition as a strong complementary business to our TigerDirect operation."
Port Washington, N.Y.-based Systemax said the 16 stores will be located in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico, and will strengthen TigerDirect's planned retail expansion. TigerDirect currently operates 11 retail stores in Florida, Illinois, North Carolina and Ontario, Canada, plus Tigerdirect.com.
Systemax expects the deal to close in stages during the first quarter of 2008.
Dallas-based CompUSA was sold to an affiliate of the Gordon Brothers Group in December, which said it would conduct an "orderly wind-down" of the store's operations. Later that month, CompUSA told the state it planned to lay off 150 people in South Florida during February.
