I don't know if this will help with the pain but eating a lot of celery should help with the popping and cracking. It's the natural sodium that does it.
I have been dealing with this pain off and on for a while nothing quite as severe as the last couple of days. It may be due to a lot of standing. I am sure my weight gain due to pregnancy is helping the hurt along too. I have a pop or crack happening for at least 4 years. I remember back in 07 I had an accident on the job a big reel full of copper wire kicked out of a pay off bounced into my knee but my back is what suffered all the injury. I was a healing process for 5 to 6 months. It was my lower left back. It is my left knee that is currently causing me major pain. I have tried the Tylenol heat patch and no relief in sight. Dh suggested I try an icy hot patch and still its just as stiff as ever hurts so bad to bend to walk and if there is something to step over on the floor I feel I could almost trip before I could get my knee to cooperateThe next thing i have to try is a bean heat pack I do not own a heating pad but the microwave ones seem to do the same type of thing. I will not take pills as I hate to take stuff when I am pregnant.
I am not sure what else to try I at times could just cry how bad it hurts. I hope this goes way soon my kids have until Jan 2 off from school and I would really like to be able to do some fun stuff with them. We went out side they played I kind of stood there like a snowman, I think the cold kind of irritates my knee too. After coming in I could feel the pain stabbing so bad. I sat while I had the icy hot on my knee and watched Dennis the Menace Christmas with my leg elevated and it still hurts just as bad as it did before I tried anything for relief.
Any thoughts or suggestions I do have an elliptical exersize machine not sure if I should force it to move maybe it just needs to loosen up I am willing to try almost anything but take a pill to relive the pain.

You know it just might make perfect sense. Christmas eve and Christmas Day was Ham dinner. Dh's Aunt invites us over for Christmas Eve Dinner and she typically serves turkey this year was ham and we were serving ham Christmas Day here for Dh's Mom, Dad and Step father. I know I have been standing a lot lately and for sure have noticed the swelling in my ankles well before the ham dinners. I have been drinking lots of water and been retaing water too. I have lots of celery in the fridge so I think I will be munching on that and see if I can help some of what I am dealing with. Thanks for posting that is hand info I never knew the popping was due to sodium.

How are you today? Any better? You mentioned that you hurt your back before. How is it now? The L4 (and maybe L5) areas can cause knee pain. Do you have any radiating pain from back to leg?
I went out yesterday with the DH today I kept walking it still hurts to bend it. As far as my back it has been ok it does hurt occasionally I try to keep good posture and try not to sit or lay too much as I think this contributes to the amount of pain it causes me.
Today the pain is persistent but not stabbing as it was 2 nights ago.
I did have an MRI done in 2007 this was done 3 months after my on the job back injury.
The findings were Minimal disc narrowing and desiccation with schmorl s node fromation seen at T12- L1. No significant internal canal or foraminal stenosis seen. The visualized cord remains normal. Mild schmorl s node also seen st L1- L2 but no significant disc narrowing, desiccation or senosis and no herniation. The L2- L3 and L3-L4 levels appear normal. There is mild disc narrowing and desiccation at L4-L5. Prominent schmorl s node formation seen superior endplate of L5. There is a small central disc protrusion with dorsal component. This does not deform thecal sac nor does it result in significant canal or foraminal stenosis. No significant bony degenerative change.
L5-S1 apprears somewhat transitional in configuration but no evidence of disc space narrowing or desiccation and no herniation or stenosis. No facet degenerative change seen at this level. In genreal, foramina are at generous at all levels.
Impression: Only mild disc and bony degenerative change with very early protrusion at L4-L5. Only minimak borderline forminal compromise as a result but no significant stenosis at this or any other level. Generouse canal size seen throughout as well.
This is the actual write up of my mir taken in 2007. I was never retuned to work for another 2 months after this mri. I have dealt with pain off and on but latley it had been my knee. My low back pain I am figuring is more pregnancy related at this point. I do notice at times my back will jam up on the low left side and cause my leg to lag or stiffen and I feel as though I am dragging my entire left side.
I try to keep good posture and keep moving because I know not doing much is not good too.

Do you have brace? I have one and that helps mine more than anything does. I got it form the medical sale place but they do cost a nice penny. Here you can buy one with a dr but if you have insurnace get a dr to write you up for one so that the insurance will pay for it. The ones from walmart ect are not as good!
Also pain rubs seems to help me more than pain meds do

My next appt is for Jan 3 I will see if it is any thing my Dr's office can do for me I know for the swelling for my second child they wrote me a script for support socks to help with ankle swelling. They were pretty pricy with out insurance so I might see if they can do anything for a knee brace I would hate to fall as a result of this stubborn knee. I do have some Tylenol presige (sp?) I could give that a try too. I have been getting on my elliptical a little each day just to try to keep it motivated, I can do that with out really bending the knee and I think the hip movement is good too. I have seen a little relief and I have been snacking on celery. Also drinking a lot more water.

keep moving...if you don't, your knee will feel like it is frozen. I have severe RA and my left knee kills me. I just got a brace but honestly it hasn't helped that much other then it makes me feel safer when I walk...I always use a cart when I can to help my balance. Dr. ordered the brace and I had to pay upfront..$500...insurance is suppose to pay me back...we will see...heat doesn't seem to help my knee either. If it is wet and cold, nothing help....hope you get relief.. and soon....
Blue Emu works wonders for my husbands back pain.....I would think it would help for knee pain too. Walmart carries it $11.99 but there is a $2 coupon on the site and I didn't have a problem using it at Walmart.
It's not a bengay type product and doesn't have a odor to it, it's a anti-inflammatory cream.
