Default Extreme Sinus pressure in the face

Over Thanksgiving weekend, DS and I both ended up sick. From what I can tell, he is limited to a runny nose, but myself on the other hand-am in so much pain from Sinus Pressure in both of my cheeks. I also have a runny noise, very bad sore throat and ear ache, body chills and very bad body aches that are centered in my lower back, hip area.

I am taking DS and I to the Dr. on Monday-but does anyone have any suggestions on how to help relieve the pressure in my face? It's so bad that no matter which way I sit or lay, I can not sleep. I have taken a decongestint-but it has done nothing for me. Any suggestions?

Heat! I have something called Sinus Buddy. You put it in the microwave then lie down with it over your sinuses. If you don't have one of those use a heating pad.

Cayenne pepper spray. I got this online but I've been told by some people that it is available locally for them.

A Neti pot or something similar. Make a solution of 1 cup of warm water, 1/3 teaspoon of plain or sea salt and a pinch of baking soda. Rinse your sinuses.

It sounds like you have a sinus infection. When I've had that before...normally I need to see the doctor pronto.

I agree with CW&M, you need to get to a doctor. But, I've found that steam can help with sinus pressure. Warm a pan of water to almost boiling. Put it on a table, then take a towel and make sort of a "tent" around the pan. Place your face about 12-18" away from the water and breathe.

I don't know what to say about sleeping, but Aleve Cold & Sinus is a miracle worker during the day.

I know what you are going through and it is painful and makes me cry when it would happen. I don't have sinus pressure right now but I have in the past. I have a regimen that I do daily and I haven't had sinus pressure in a long time. I drink 1 tablespoon of local made honey every morning. I also drink colodial silver from the health food store. I get mine from someone that makes it, but used to have to buy it. I take the silver 1-2 times a day for maintenance but if you have an infection you need to drink it 4-5 times a day, 1 tablespoon. It takes away the infection without having to take antibiotics. Works for me every time. I have a netti pot but don't like it. It seemed to make it worse to me. Drink tons of water every day as it helps keep your sinuses clear and not stopped up. The Dr. told me to drink 6 water bottles a day and I can tell when I don't drink enough because it tries to get stopped up but I haven't had pain in a long time. This is weird but to get rid of the pressure this is what I do and I do it every day several times a day to make sure it doesn't build up but if it does build up you will have to do it for hours maybe. Take your index finger and thumb and hold your nose like you did when you were little to go underwater. Blow out while pinching your nose. You will feel some of the pressure pop. Some people think it hurts but I don't. I think it makes me feel a lot better. I have high blood pressure so I can't take sudafed but if you don't have high bp then it works great. I used to take it until I found out so now I do other things. Get plenty of rest too the Dr. said as that helps you not get the sinus pressure but since you already have it and can't lie down because of the pressure please try these things I am telling you about. It really does work for me. I have tried heat but the Dr. said it will aggrevate it so use a cold ice pack. It reduces the swelling if you have any and the silver will too. The silver takes about 24 hours to take the infection away but it does take it away. WHATEVER you do, do NOT put pressure on your face with your hand as I have done this a few years ago. I instantly felt great and laid down for 2 hours because I was exhausted. When I woke up I felt "weird" and screamed when I looked in the mirror. My face had swollen up HUGE and I was deformed looking, my lips were huge, everything, I cried for 3 days. I looked like a freak but had no pain. I hated my husband looking at me but he is such a sweetheart. He said I was still beautiful and refused to let me cover my face. It took 3 days for all of the swelling to go away, and I didn't leave the house at all. I had to live with ice packs on my face the whole time with a break in between every half hour. I pray you get the healing your body needs and to anyone else who is suffering at this time. It is not fun but I am doing so much better now that I know what to do, it is a lifesaver for me. Also for me the cayenne pepper does bring instant relief for only about 20 minutes and then bam, pain worse than ever. I was told by the Dr. that is one of the worse things to do because it aggrevates your sinuses but it might work for others just not for me. A cup of hot tea, lemon and local honey does help soothe it. If you can stand it a cup of straight apple cider vinegar drunk straight down clears it fast. I was desperate one time so I tried it, puked the first and 2nd try but the third try I got it down and it really did help but it is disgusting so I had never tried that again. Please let us know how you are doing. Take care and I will be praying for you.

Lots of Mucinex, Tylenol/Motrin and LOTS of heat of your face (I will sit in a hot shower for an hour or so). Then make an appt to see a DR as soon as you can. I have had many sinus infections with sinus pressure and they are awful!! Hugs!

Use the Neti Pot in the shower. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel. The Tylenol or Advil cold and sinus works well also. Hope you feel better soon.

Get a Neil Med Sinus rinse kit and distilled water. Mix pack and water, run through both sides of nose, in one side out the other. It feels wierd, but you will start loving it. It will loosen everything up and clear sinus passages. I start using it at the first sign of an infection and it works great. You can also stand in a hot shower.
