I did wind up in the ER - not by choice - I truly thought I was dying by the time I went... and I can assure you, that even with insurance, I paid several thousand dollars of my own $ for my few hours in the ER.... lesson learned - next time I will take my chances and lay on the bathroom floor and not go. I was amazed that my portion of the hospital bill was so high - and I had insurance.

It's unfortunate when people, even with their insurance, avoid going to the doctor cause they know their portion is still going to be through the roof. I have been wanting to go to the dermatolagists for months now, but I know insurance won't cover most of what I need so I just don't go.
I am dreading getting the bill for DH's ER visit and overnight stay We have insurance but I know we will be paying OOP as well. This could not happen at a worse time either. DS is getting his braces on next week...another high bill even with insurance and we WERE planning on taking the kids on a cruise over spring break but that may have to wait as well. Depends on all the doctor bills.

We also do not go to the Dr. unless we are practically dying even with insurance. I have only been to the Dr. once in the past 5 years (besides my annual pap) and that was when I had pneumonia.
