Thumbs Down Fell On My Knee

So, this past Tuesday we had our first snow of the season. It didn't last long, nor did it stick really. It covered my porch and car lightly, but that was all. Well, I had to run out to my car and I made the joke that it was the first snow so I was probably going to fall. In hindsight... maybe I shouldn't have made that joke.

I was wearing flip flops and carrying an insanely heavy backpack down a wooden ramp. I was almost to the bottom when I felt myself slip, and there was no stopping it. My bag pulled me backwards and I landed with my left leg bent behind me and my knee slammed into the side of the ramp. This is my 'good' knee btw. I had to sit there for a second because it hurt so bad that I couldn't get up.

It's been almost a week and I'm still having knee issues. It's not swollen anymore, nor is it really bruised. I can't put any pressure on it though. Just the blanket touching it nearly made me cry last night! What's weird though is that during the day it's mostly fine. By the time I'm relaxing for the night, however, I can't hardly walk on it. -Sigh-

At what point would a trip to the doctor be in order? I feel stupid going if they're just going to say "Oh it's bruised, just rest it."

I will let other's tell you whether you should go to a doc..cause I just don't have any idea.

But I found myself getting ran over by my own car...(long story)..and got a very deep bruise on my knee..that you couldn't even see...but it lasted 2 years!!! knee's suck! They don't like being messed with.

Hopefully someone will know if you should have it xray'd or something.

I think it's up to you since there is no way for us to know how much it hurts.

If it feels like it may be fractured, I would say definitely go and get an x-ray cause you might need a cast or something to keep you from bending your knee.

But if you are pretty sure it isn't fractured, then it might be a bone bruise and I'm not sure what kind of treatment a dr will do.

I bruised my tailbone not too long ago. I didn't go to the doctor. I just took painkillers and iced it off and on for the first couple days, and also followed suggestions I read not to aggravate it with too much movement. The pain lasted a couple weeks for me, but I have heard it can last much longer depending on how badly it is bruised.

If you have good insurance, it wouldn't hurt to get an x-ray to make sure you're only dealing with a bruise. You don't want to cause more damage to your good knee.

I can understand you wanting to wait it out if money's an issue though. Just be really careful & maybe wear a brace to keep you from over extending it & such.

Speaking of tailbones. BTDT. It hurt for years. It wouldn't hurt all the time, but then other times, it wouldn't stop. Bruises are really crazy.

I hope you find yourself much better soon, kiddo. And I know you gotta be a kid for wearing flip flops in snow.

I fell that very same day....a couple of hours before the rain turned to snow. Both me and my DD were running to the car after I picked her up from daycare and somehow our feet got tangled up and we both fell. She didn't hurt herself and barely got wet. Me, on the other hand, skinned up both my palms, scraped one knee and bruised my hip. I felt like a little kid again with all of my scrapes and bruises.

I hope you are feeling better.
