I'll go ask my experts LOL
I have been prescribed Peradex for some gum/gingivital infection/irritation - I don't really even know.... and I have suffered more than once from C. Difficile as a result of medicine so I am very inclined to throw away the prescription and not even fill it given that I am prone to suffer from C. Difficile. Any correlation that anyone knows about? I hope C&W responds - she is my C. Diff expert.

Peridex - I spelled it wrong the first time.
I answered my own question. Since it is an antibiotic - there is the potential that, if enough was absorbed through the mouth, it could cause C. Difficile (and if a person is already prone to that, it doesn't help). So no Peridex for me. Now I have to figure out what alternative I can try to use to rid the bacteria/gingivitis infection.
This is the answer I got so far:
Peridex is a chlorhexidine rinse--not an antibiotic. I believe it's just swished and spit out (DH used it), so I wouldn't be concerned.
DH had C diff and has had minor flare ups since. Was just at the vitamin store getting more Saccharomyces Boulardii that he takes daily to help keep it at bay
**you could call a pharmacist if your unsure if it's an antibiotic. I looked it up...and it doesn't appear to me to be an antibiotic either.

Your husband has had C. Diff relapses? With what kind of time span? I have gone 4 months since my second relapse - am I finally out of the danger zone on relapsing?? Geez, I hope so.
I did call the pharmacist... it is a liquid antibiotic... he didnt think there would be enough absorbed through the gums to cause C. Diffic but he couldn't guarantee it wouldn't, particularly with someone who already has had C. Diffic - so I figured it is just not worth it.... now I just have to figure out an alternative.
Nope..the person I asked....I asked my other online forum (that I frequent) the question (my cdiff guru's). The gal that answered said her DH has had relapses.

I would look for mouthwashes or toothpaste made specifically for gingivitis.
I'm using Crest Clinical Prohealth currently. Helps prevent gingivitis in 4 weeks.
