For those of you who have/had thyroid issues

I know I have posted in her before obout my thyroid problems. I saw my endo today.
She is making me to another ultrasound to see if the nodule has grown. I also need to to a radioiodine scan/uptake scan to see if my nodule is hot or cold.
She felt my thyroid and could tell that it was bigger, she also stated it was enlarged by looking at it also.
She said with all my symotoms shes leaning towards Graves Diseasae.
My newest syptom is having a feeling an enlarged neck. It just feels bigger and I am also having difficulty swalling lately. Food is getting stuck a lot more these days.

What should I expect here??

If you are having problems swallowing, ask your Endo if you should also see a GI specialist, for an upper endoscopy. Do you have reflux?

I have already had one of those. No reflux. She said that having trouble swalling can be due to the larger thryoid gland (goiter) because its enflamed as well as the nodule, depending ont he size of it.

I hate the radioiodine scan,I felt bad the whole day after I took those pills you have to take for that..

What should I expect? Do they remove nodules? Take out the thyroid? Ive also heard they kill it with some injection. I will be happy to know more after both scans.

the doctors took out my sisters thyroid because of her enlarged neck....she has to take synthroid rest of her life.

One year ago, I switched thyroid meds from Synthroid to Nature-Throid. I had been on Synthroid for 15ish years. It completely stopped working. Well, my TSH was in range, but I could sleep for 16 hours and still had a terrible time getting out of bed….hair falling out….cold all the time…..weight gain…..could not think / total brain fog….my neck looked like a tree-trunk…my thyroid was 4-times its size and wrapped a pretty good way around my neck. This made sleeping bad (could not breathe well, snored quite a bit, etc.).

After doing some major research, I found the book “Stop The Thyroid Madness”. There is a website by that name too. Based on what I learned from that book and website, I demanded that my doctor change me to Nature-Throid. Nature-Throid is a bio-identical, naturally occurring thyroid hormone. Synthroid is synthetic thyroid hormone. My body just quit accepting Synthroid as a thyroid replacement. I mean, I did not have an adverse reaction to the drug; it just stopped working for me.

It was a struggle getting my doctor to prescribe Nature-Throid for me. Doctors are told by pharmaceutical companies that Synthroid is the “gold standard”. But, after pushing her to just TRY the drug with me, she agreed to research it and did prescribe it. NOW Synthroid is NO LONGER what they prescribe for hypothyroid patients….It is naturally occurring, bio-identical such as Nature-Throid! (I say it like this because Nature-Throid is a name brand drug. Compounding pharmacies are able to make naturally occurring, bio-identical thyroid meds that are not name brand.)

If I would have stayed on Synthroid, I would have been on disability or worse. Before the change from Synthroid to Nature-Throid, my mind was BAD BAD…..I was having major rage issues and suicidal thoughts. Once I went to Nature-Throid, all those underactive thyroid symptoms STOPPED. I can for the first time in 20-some years, see the tendons and vocal cords in my neck instead of it looking like a tree trunk. The major swelling of my thyroid is GONE!!!!

I was on 250 mc Synthroid. I am now on 225 Mg Nature-Thyroid. The Nature-Thyroid website has conversion charts to help with prescribing.

Some doctors are not on the “naturally occurring, bio-identical” hormone wagon yet. But, I think the tide is turning. At least it is around here. We have had several compounding pharmacies pop up in the past year who specialize in naturally occurring, bio-identical hormones. That is a good place to start to see if there is a physician in the area that prescribes a naturally occurring, bio-identical thyroid hormone like Nature-Throid.

Thanks Katerina for tha information :) I really want to be put on the best thyroid medicine possible for my body, mind and everything else. I hate taking medications if I don't need to, try to be as natural as possible.

I am having this problem also. I can't get to the endo until Feb. and my regular doctor says there is no urgency so no treatments as of yet. My neck is huge!
