I'm sorry for your pain. Hope you feel better very soon.![]()
Warning... venting here... kinda long, my apologies but I don't know what else to do.....
I had gastric bypass surgery a month ago yesterday and i feel absolutely horrid. Over the past week and a half, if I am sitting straight up for any period of time, my back under my left shoulder blade starts to REALLY hurt. First thought was a pulled muscle, so I used a heating pad. Got a little relief. I feel best in the recliner with a cool cloth on my forehead and the ceiling fan going. I am scared to eat or drink cause I really don't like this feeling. I can only watch so much more television or nap for so much longer. I can't drive for more than 1/2 hour at a time, can't sit at the kitchen table for that long either. I can tell you everything I have eaten in the past 48 hours (not a whole heck of a lot, due to nausea). I also have not been drinking a lot either due to nausea. I know both of those are really super BAD things this early out. Told the dr this last night and about the bypass. I really don't think either she heard me or understood what this means. I honestly think I would be better with fluids and iv antibiotics, but what do I know?? I'm just a hypochondriac to them.
I couldn't even sit thru church last Sunday at my Dad's birthday. It hurt so bad that I was rummaging around in my purse, kinda loudly, to find Tylenol. How do I get them to pay attention and fix this so that I can be a Mom and get things done that I need to get done? I haven't done a lick of crafting for the holidays because I can't sit that long. I am most comfortable reclining in the recliner. I am so frustrated and so is my husband!
Went back to the ER last night, after talking to my PCP's on call dr. This is the second time this week. Went on Tues afternoon and was told after labs and CT scan that I had a kidney infection. Called my dr on Wed and he said to call back when the CIpro was gone and he'd recheck me. Thursday, I call him cause I'm crying in pain. Tells me to go to the ER, couldn't cause of family scheduling. So DH and I went last night, had labs done. Blood came back normal. Couldn't use the urine cause of Ms Monthly. So I am stuck with the pain, which gets SUPER CRYING BAD in the afternoon. I mean I want my Mommy bad!! They gave me zofran and morphine. Then sent me home with follow up with your dr on Monday. Well, he doesn't want to see me until the Cipro is gone. Nothing the gastric bypass surgeon's office can do cause its a kidney infection, they now THINK. At least that is what the dr last night had to say. Am wondering if I should call my nephrologist (kidney dr) on Monday and see what he has to say. I am thinking I may just do that. Am so bloody frustrated with the ER. Just give me pain meds and send me home. Don't try to fix it, just slap on a bandaid and give me a sticker.
C'mon.... really?? Pain means something is wrong internally, right?? You are a dr and supposed to be able to fix that, right?? A whole hospital at your disposal and you don't know what is wrong? aaaarrrrggghhhh......
Where are my percocets and oxycontin????

Well, back to the ER I went yesterday upon the advice of my nephrologist (kidney specialist). They actually did call him and follow his orders! Surprised the dickens out of me. They never do that when I ask them to... Anyway... I am now on Zofran for nausea (isn't really helping much), Tramadol for pain (in same family as Percocet, so I can alternate as needed) and Pyrdim for urinary tract pain. Already have thrown up once today. Haven't eaten anything but a bagel thin with peanut butter, it stayed down. Haven't had more than 8 ounces of water, either. Am thinking on Mon, I will call my gastric bypass surgeon and talk with them about everything.
I am so tired. I have managed to start on a couple of crafts for Christmas, will see if I can finish them or not today.
Thanks for the well wishes.

I would also have them check your gallbladder. I know with my gallbladder I used to have pain that was in that area of the back you describe. But it also went around to the front. It would hurt so bad it made me physically sick.

I had sanity once upon a time I promise. It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it
.
I think it has something to do with the gastric bypass and the way your body deals with the food you eat. I know that when my acid reflux is acting up I hurt in the same place under my shoulder blade...

Well, saw my urologist today ( i have a history of kidney stones). Seems that the ER doc on Tue, Fri and Sat were WRONG!!! There was no bacteria in my urine, hence NO kidney infection. Instead on the CT scan there were "bilateral renal calculi" (kidney stones). I remember asking the dr if there were stones and his response was no. I'm so frustrated with the ER right now. Called the administration and complained about the incorrect diagnosis and being placed on the wrong meds. Spent 4 hours today at his office, in between getting a KUB X-ray and something called an IVP (with contrast to follow flow out of my kidneys). Supposed to get the results of the IVP tomorrow or Wednesday. So the cipro and pyrdium have hit the trash... Gotta live on percocets until we decide what to do next. argghh.....
Well, the IVP showed no blockages. Urologist & nephrologist are stumped. Nephrologist is suggesting I go to the ER where his practice is just in case they need him. The theory now is a slipped disc or pulled muscle, really???? I am so tired of this back & forth mess. I just want answers!! Is that too much to ask??
