HELP Re: What is wrong with my monthly cycle???

I'm 42 and have had infertility problems, so I would have said that might be the problem, but you have been regular prior to so that cancelled that out. Although I had normal heavy periods in my teens & early 20s, every 30 days. When I hit my late 20s, and my periods starting getting longer & longer. We are talking every 4-6 months without having one. Nice in theory but not when you don't have symptoms leading up to them and get caught w/o a change of clothes or the necessities. Nor is it fun when you are trying to make a baby.

I had the twins @ 35 after trying for almost 8 yrs. My cycles strangely went back to every 30 or so days. But the closer I got to my 40s, the started getting longer. About 45 day apart, so I got a app for my phone called "My
Days" and having been keeping track of them since.

I had a long stretch the other month, and went to my general dr, who serves as my gyn, and she told me I could be starting pre-menopause. To take precautions and everything will be fine.

Technically you don't have to have a period, as long as you have one at least every 6 months. This came from my fertility dr, who deals with women stuff all the time.

You can have blood tests done to see if you are pre-menopausel, but it won't show until you are actually in menopause. It is probably stress related, or your body just being your body. Your hormones could be out of whack and that might be the cause. Have you had your thyroid checked? SOmetimes that will cause your period to be irregular. The pill & other forms of bc last a lot longer in your body then they say they do. I think 2 years is a bit long from the M, but anything is possible.

As far has DH having V, if it has been this long, I don't think he is the cause. If he just had it and you were having this issue, then I would say, it is really possible. That's why when you have it done, you are to wait for a period of time, just in case. Or when you have your tubes tied, to wait the period of time.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    Take care,
    God Bless,

Sounds like pre-menopause to me as well. I had a time back about 15 years ago were I went 9 months without a period and I wasn't pregnant. Doctor felt it was stress, so I quit that job. Pain went away and cycle reappeared with the help of an herb Dong Quai (taken for less than a month).

Now, I'll be 46 yrs next month and have extremely regular cycles with normal flow. BUT, I have insomnia (one night and morning I never went to sleep - I was awake when DH woke up for work at 5am) and hot flashes. OBGYN said if my cycles change to a more longer interval and such to let her know.

She has me on Red Clover and warm soy milk if I need it at night. I also have progesterone cream that I took back in February when I had the big hot flash symptoms, but haven't had any lately.

The book, Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by C. Northrup is a good read.

I am having the same problem...but mine are extremely heavy. Some months i will have 2 periods that each last 12 days or so. Went to see the gyno about it and on the 26th i go in for a ablation. It were they remove the lining of the uterus and periods are suppose to dramaticly reduce. I am 35 and I asked about menopause and she said Nope thats not my problem. Stress plays a big role in it. I lost my father in April and after that my monthly cycle went CRAZY. I suggest going to see the gyno, have some tests done to make sure nothing else is wrong.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I did end up getting my period after 45 days. I also went in to the gyno for my yearly checkup and she said that everything is normal and that it is probably just stress. She said everything looked fine. As long as everything is ok I can't complain about have my periods so far apart!!
