Got the numbers, triglisorites (sp) 411, Vitamin D 19
So, on Cholosterol meds and prescription vitamin D. Along with a 1400 calorie a day diet, 10000 steps a day (approx 2 miles) and cardio workout.
I don't know what my numbers are yet, but had a message that my bloodwork was back and I needed to call and get into the office. Seems my cholosterol is "very high" and my vitamin D is "very low". I'll be trying to get into the office today to find out what's up and what to do/take.
I have been a little more tired the past couple months and some pain in my right shoulder/arm. I figured the arm was carpal tunnel. Other then that, no symptoms.
Does anyone else have high cholosterol and low vitamin D counts?

Hi I am sorry to hear this. I will be praying for you. My husband had high cholesterol 5 months ago. They put him on a low dose cholesterol pill and we changed our diet. No more fried chicken, greasy foods but once a week he could have a little, like a hamburger or something. But no fried food that was breaded and cooked in oil. I started checking everything to make sure it didn't have cholesterol and now he is good with his numbers. The Dr. was impressed that he was able to get it normal so fast, well we prayed and got what we expected. It isn't hard to do, in fact he doesn't even miss his bacon that much, lol but can have 2 pieces now once a week or so.
Please pray for my family.
Please keep Elizabeth in your prayers. She lost her Father on 2/19/2012.

Thank you ladies. Jess, the dr told me 10000 steps would be about 2 miles, about 1 hr a day.. I've been using an online calorie counter to try to help keep up. I really thought I ate pretty healthy, but I guess not ;)
Shelley, I don't really eat alot of fried foods, maybe once a month. Thinking about it though, I guess I do use a lot of greasy type foods (bacon) to season and cook with. How long did it take your hubby to get his numbers down?
So sorry to hear you are high on cholesterol and triglycerides. My triglycerides are low at 77, but when the doctor threatened the statin drugs,
I got my cholesterol down from a high of 319 to 239 just by diet, so keep on the diet and get excercise and you will be amazed how fast it will lower.
I don't need meds because the ratio is good. I have a high HDL which offsets the bad LDL number. Mine is what is called familial...runs in the family even though we are normal weight and don't excercise specifically, but are active and moving a lot.
Hope you have good luck with the Vitamin D...DH had 19, same as yours, and took 50,000 I.U. Vitamin D a week and got his up to 60 in a short time. My Vit. D. was 28.1, which is almost normal, so only taking 1000-2000 units daily and will see if that is enough when I go back for my test.

I HATE statins. My Dr. put me on one because my good cholesterol was a bit low and the bad one was a bit high. I lost a lot of hair from my head. My eyes got dry. My skin got dry. My lips peeled. My memory got bad. And I lost my libido. I took myself off the statin and things got much better.
But then about a week ago the Dr. put me back on another statin. And the side effects have begun again. Already my hair is falling out rapidly. My eyes are killing me and my lips are peeling. Grrr...
Thanks everyone. So far I haven't had any side effects from the Crestol, but the dr did say to call right away if I did and they would adjust the dosage. I'm hoping to be able to get off of it, or at least have the dosage cut down a lot, but I'll have to wait and see on that. And I'm definately keeping up with the exercise, not quite @ 10,000 steps yet, but I'm getting there.
I had a your cholesterol is up scare myself. Like mentioned above, we don't really eat anything breaded and fried, and my cholesterol had always been quite low. In fact, when tested while pregnant, I got a lecture about not avoiding fat quite so much as cholesterol that low might be harmful to the baby! Anyways, suddenly my number was up around 150 and my doctor was quite stern.
I did a lot of research online regarding what sorts of things other than deep fried, breaded foods might be the culprit, and also what things I might eat to lower my cholesterol. As it turns out, there are a number of herbs, fish oil, and whatnot which have been tested in proper studies and found to actually help. I ended up with a short list which I took to my nearby health food store. I guess all of this is not anything uncommon as they had a jar of tablets specifically formulate for lowering cholesterol which contained all of the items on my list, plus a couple of others that did not sound likely to be a problem. While I don't think these tablets alone will suddenly cure cholesterol of 400, they do measurably help and with all your diet and lifestyle changes might add up to significant lessening. I'm not a medical professional, so don't want to tell you oh take these, you understand. Just mentioning something you might look into and discuss with your doctor.
For me, I took the pills and added another aerobics class weekly to my schedule. I listed everything I ate for several weeks, and eventually determined I really do like cheeses a bit more than is good for me, mostly. I changed my diet a bit to cut out more of the sneaky fats that had been creeping in. My doctor had me back six months after the initial problem was noticed. He'd warned me most people who creep up suddenly like that wind up on prescription medications, but thus far my cholesterol has stayed down where it ought to be ever since the changes. When I mentioned the tablets I got from the health food store, we had a nice little chat about some of the developments regarding herbs, fish oil, etc and my doctor told me whatever I was doing, keep that up. It has been several years now and I always cringe when we get to the "about your cholesterol" portion of my physicals since then, but so far so good.

**update**
I went in today and my triglycerides went from 411 to 189, I'm thrilled. I still have to take the Crestor, but if my next visit is as good doc will start decreasing the dosage and maybe I can get off of them. The vitamin D jumped to 32, so that's good. And I lost 15 lbs. So a walking I will go. Thanks for all the support!
