Nurse Mederma Scar Gel - does it work?

I've got some new scars coming my way as well as two older ones from about 3 years ago. A friend's mom told me to try Mederma to lessen the appearance of them. I saw a coupon for $2 in the PCS email I got and I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this. It definitely isn't cheap, so I'd like to hear from other people who have tried it before I buy it.

My mom said it's great, but I haven't tried it myself. It is pretty expensive! My mom used vitamin E, aloe and cocoa butter on a very large burn scar, and it shrunk down to a little spot on her leg. Her entire thigh was burned, and it's a 2 inch by 2 inch square now. She would take the vit E gel caps, poke a hole in them, and squeeze a little onto the healed burn, rub it in, and alternate with the aloe and cocoa butter cream. I tried the Walgreen's brand of that Strivectin stuff, but didn't notice any difference. HTH!

My DH used it religiously after his knee surgery and it worked pretty well at lightening the scar. I used it when I remembered to...which wasn't too often (once-twice a week) for my c-section scar and it did practically nothing. I am not good at remembering small daily things like that though...with the expection of my birthcontrol. A friend of mine used the Walmart brand for his scar after cancer treatments and he said it worked great.

My mother's plastic surgeon had her use it on her mastectomy/Implant scar.

Never worked for me or at least was worth the money it cost. Vitamin E oil did as well as anything.

It worked well for my daughter that had a pretty large injury on her foot and ankle area. She had to go to the plastic surgeon for over a month a couple times a week to have her wound cleaned. I thought it was going to be a terrible scar she was going to be stuck with. She still has some black from the tire that they could not clean out unless they did surgery but the other area around it looks great. We used the maderma for kids for a while after she healed because that was what the surgeon suggested. It does take some time but it worked pretty darn well. Good luck to you. Maybe ask your family doctor if they have some samples for you to try. I work in a family practice office and they do give us samples every now and then.

haven't tried mederma. i've been on metaderm though. i have surgical scars which seem impossible to lighten. after several weeks, i started seeing improvements. this is one is also cheap. i mean it's worth your money. you might want to check it out. just google Metaderm.

Before actually buying it, try to see if you can get some samples. My son's pediatrician actually had samples in the office. Your doctor might too. You could also contact the company. At the very least they will send you some good coupons. I tried it for my c-section scar and it didn't help at all. My scar is huge and very uneven and jaggy (hopefully that made sense). It was an emergency, so I guess stapling me back up nicely wasn't important.

The kids mederma didn't work on my son either. He had to get stitches in his back and we used two tubes of the kids version. It might have lightened it a tiny bit, but that was all.

I think that there are some types of skin that it just doesn't work on. I was told by my son's dermotologist to start using it before the wound heals all the way. It has to be closed, but not fully healed for best results.

Have you tried that new scar cream, I believe it's called Bio - it's in an orange and white package I believe.
