    HELP Thyroid problems...what about you?

    Hi everyone!

I have been going through a lot over the past few years and am looking for stories of experience or whatnot. I am a 27 year old female.

So far I have experienced and been diagnosed with:

~Anxiety/depression - Also assosiated with thyroid problems
    ~Ovarian cysts- Linked with Hypothyroidism??
    ~High cholesteral- Also hypothyroidism??
~Celiac Disease-Also linked with thyroid problems
~High levels of SHBG (also taking oral contraceptive so might be the reason)-usually elevated with hyperthyroidism
~High levels of cortisol hormone (blood test anyway) (24hr urine always fine)
~Thyroid Nodule that is at this point in time measuring 5mm.
I don't know if the nodule is hot or cold, solid or fluid filled.
~I have an enflamed knee which pushes out my knee cap causing pain. I also have been diagnosed with cubital tunnel syndrome. and have pain in my wrists.
~I also have numbness in my extremities. Have had MANY interpretations to what it is...anxiety, stress, the cubital tunnel....
~My TSH levels were .56 on a scale from .35-5.50

None of my doctors can figure out what is wrong! Cant tell me if I am hyper or hypo. Can't tell me why my hormone levels are elevated. No Dr has diagnosed me with anything in the thyroid department as to weather its cushings, addisons, tumors, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, hashimotos,......

I can't figure this out on my own...i have signs of both hypo and hyper!

I don't know why no one can figure this out and to top it all off I have had a "new symptom"

This past sunday night/monday morning I awoke with a very painful right calf cramp. It hurt so much I felt like I was going to throw up. I managed to walk myself down my stairs in pain. I made it to my living room where i passed out for a moment. I then got back up and made it to the bathroom where i fell to the floor. I lay there with extreme chest pain, i thought my heart was going to stop and i could barely breath. My husband finally found me on the floor and was prepared to call 911 because I was semi conciouse...i was having trouble getting my words out. But i managed to tell him no to see if the symtoms would subside. After a few mintues they did and it has not happened since, though i am still having trouble cathing my breath (short winded easily) and i get dizzy easy.

I go see one of my dr's again tomorrow, but I don't know how far it will get me. I don't know if all these things are seperate or interconected. Just looking for advice...experience...words of encouragement..

    Thanks,
    Katrina

Based on your TSH your thyroid is normal but you would need T3 and T4 checked also to make sure you are not leaning toward hyper. TSH levels are HIGH not low when you are Hypothyroid.

If I recall from your previous post the Celiac diagnosis is new. If so, then many of your health issues could be related to that. Undiagnosed/untreated Celiac (eating wheat) can cause vitamin deficiencies which could cause many of your symptoms.

If you have the means to see a Naturopath or even a regular MD familiar with Celiac you may find better treatment for your symptoms.

I just reread your post and want to comment about the passing out. You really do need to tell your doctor about that. It could be heart related or a clot (since you had calf pain). How soon are you seeing the doctor?

I hope you get some answers soon and feel better.

Please, if you are feeling short of breath, it may be a medical emergency. Better to be safe then sorry, and get it checked out.

Ask if your doc can write you a script to get your vit D levels checked too,

Good luck - I'll be thinking about you., Please update us after you see your doc

Well, I'm not a doctor or anything....but, a lot of the issues you mentioned can be hormonally related. Since thyroid problems and ovarian cysts are common in PCOS, you might want to do some research into it. The doctor that I think you should see in an endocronologist, one who specializes in internal medicine, or an RE reproductive endocrinologis (even if you are not dealilng with infertility issues) this type of specialist is well versed in the issues like PCOS, thyroid, cushings, etc. My endo did the RIGHT tests for thyroid, as well as other PCOS related stuff like insulin resistance. A family physician will not always order the right tests to get to the bottom of it, IMO. So, a specialist is a good idea.

I would also consider having a consult with an immunologist...as it sounds like to me your immune system is going haywire....but I would go to endo first.

Honestly I don't think a family doc should even be touching this.

If you end up inpatient. Ask for a geneticist appointment. When you start getting a bunch of dx that don't necessarily are tied to each other because they often can see the larger picture of what might be going on (do you have some xyz dx that is causing all of these other dx as an example).

I do have an endocrinologist. She's the one monitoring the thyroid nodule. She has also ordered some of the hormone testing. I just don't know if its my area and the dr's are not good here or what but it is very frustrating. Basically I am seeing my family dr tomorrow about what happened with me passing out.

What did your doctor have to say about the passing out? How are you now? Have you had your B12 and Vitamin D levels checked? Those being off can cause some of your symptoms.
