Bump.
After being diagnosed with C. Difficile from an antibiotic I was put on.... I have been prescribed a 14 day treatment of Flagyl.... however with the research I am doing online.... lots of people struggle to get rid of the C. Difficile - comes right back when course of Flagyl ends... I was also put on Florastor (over the counter probiotic) which I take twice a day to help boost the good bacteria.... I was wondering if anyone else has had this and any additional things I could take or do... to help ensure that that the bad bacteria doesn't come back once I come off the meds... I want to boost as many of the good bacteria as humanly possible....

It is possible that you will have to take Flagyl longer than two weeks, most I know have had to have it longer than that. They do take a GOOD probiotic as well. I take a probitotic and have never had C. Diff, I just got off of antibiotics and make sure that I am taking my probiotic. Foods that are natural probiotics are a good thing too, yogurt is a main one! I eat that every day if possible.
Hope you get better quickly! Laurie
I'm really hoping I don't have to take it longer than 14 days.
My daughter had C. Diff. It was horrible- So sorry you're going thru it!! She got it from antibiotics after having a UTI. It took her a good 4-5 months to fully recover, although she was only 9 mos old. It was a nightmare. They gave her a prescription for it and we also bought OTC probiotic meds for it as well. We found that Culturelle did better for her than any of the others. We dealt with about 4 months of Salmonella and then she got the UTI and then she got the C. Diff. Poor kid. Good luck with it, you have my sympathy.

Don't have any advice but I feel for ya. I got C. Difficile from the wrong antibiotic and it was horrible. Spent another 6 days in the hospital after the 3 day stay for appendix surgery.I was extremely sick and all because the Dr. didnt want to wait for the lab test to come back.
i also had c dif after taking a antifungal for uti..i was in hospital 4 days..it came back 3 time in a month or so..they then put me on vanocin-4 horse ills 4 times a day for a month.it cured it..i complained about co-pay for medicine and was told i should be glad i was not paying retain-$4000..it was horrible
I had never heard of this - how awful for all of you!
Spanelli, to think of a baby having that. . . . Poor little thing. I bet it was tough on you and dad too.![]()

Thanks Renee. It was horrible. It all started because I got a great deal on chicken breasts. DH was using the food saver to separate the meat & put it away and he got it too close to her bottles. She got the salmonella and it all was a downfall from there. She is mostly healed now but she has developed an intolerance to whole milk since her intestines became so weak. Stupid chicken sale. It was rough on all of us.

need to make sure the probiotics is not taken at the same time as the antibiotics. otherwise they negate each other's ability to clear up the C diff.
Also babies and kids have probably a better likelyhood of catching it..because they put so much in there mouth. It is commonly transferred the oral/fecal route.
