Need help with treating yellow jacket stings!
DD23 just called and said she stepped on a yellow jacket....whole thing was still attached to her foot so she pulled it out. She said it really hurts! She took benedryl and is putting ice on it right now, its swelling at the bite point and her foot was all red but the redness is subsiding a little. I don't believe she is allergic, no symptoms of that at this point.
Anyone have any old family remedies for making the pain go away quicker other than what she is already doing? She's kind of a wimp when it comes to pain so any advice you can give would be much appreciated!

Re: Need help with treating yellow jacket stings!
Hi Kremsh - either Hydrocotisone cream or a paste of baking soda and water or a paste of unseasoned meat tenderizer (Which supposedly breaks down bee venom). Also tell her to take some tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain. It can hurt for a while, like several days. Most severe reactions happen w/in minutes of the sting so she is prolly okay there. Ouch though! I hate bee stings!!

Re: Need help with treating yellow jacket stings!
Hey Jen! Just tried to call her and I think the benedryl knocked her out so she's not answering now, figures! Benedryl always works for her! Hopefully she'll wake up in a while and I'll see if she has any of that in her apartment, she may have the baking soda, meat tenderizer prob not but I do so if I need to take it over there I guess I'll be making a midnight run. Surely she has the cortisone cream though, she shops from my drugstore all the time and I know I have that here!

Re: Need help with treating yellow jacket stings!
I just read 2 days ago that apple cider vinegar is supposed to help with bee and wasp stings. Didn't mention yellow jackets.
My mom used to take a cigarette, unroll it and put the tobacco in her hand and spit on it, then put that on the sting and cover with a bandage. Not sure if it helped or not but it made her feel better!

Hmm, DS smokes, I'll steal one of his ciggys for her! She's supposed to come over tomorrow so I'll gather up all your and Jen's suggestions for her. It may be too late to be a real help but it will distract her and if she thinks it's gonna help maybe psychologically it will make her think it's helping! Thanks for the advice, reps to you both!

Re: Need help with treating yellow jacket stings!
I got stung by a scorpion years ago and my grandpa put on a tobacco paste also. Couldn't hurt to try it.

She slept off the benedryl most of the day and had to go to work at 3:30, she said it's better but still really tender.
thanks for asking!
