Default Oh My Aching Hips

I go through spurts where my hips hurt so bad i can not get any relief. I went to the Dr. December 28th and was told to go have xrays taken and there was nothing wrong. The xrays came back normal. I am sitting here in my chair with the heating pad on and it still hurts bad. I exercise regularly and try to eat correctly, but Chocolate Chip Cookies are my down fall. I have 600mg ibuprofen that I can take still as well as 5mg Vicodin, but with a 15 month old I dont like to take the Vicodin often although it does seem to help.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could have done to my hips?

The pain could actually be from your back - I believe the L4 area. If you can find a good chiropractor, give that a try plus regular massage therapy combined. The chiropractor may have massage therapy as part of the office and your insurance may cover it if done at chiro office.

Look into exercises that strengthen your back. This may help.

Are you a side sleeper? If so, try a pregnancy pillow between your knees....it's the only thing that relieves my hip pain.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have a lot of problems with general hip pain in the winter. One thing that helps for me is doing range of motion exercises and stretching. You have muscles and tendons in your hip that can tighten up and cause pain during normal activity. Stretching is especially helpful for pain that happens more on the front of your hips rather than the sides or back.

I hope you figure out what's causing your pain and a good solution for managing it.

Aleve works better than vicodin or ibuprofin for that kind of pain, even better script version/naproxin..are you sure it isn't bursa related? A cortizone shot will take care of that..also, how are your vitamin D levels? Are you in a northern climate?

Wanted to add..to test it out, try aleve for a full week, it works better as it builds in your system, you can take 4 a day safely & still be under the script dose. Always take w/ food, it isn't hard on the liver like tylenol but can be hard on the stomach.

Another thing to keep in mind, medical doctors that are D.O.'s will do manipulations, my family Dr does all my adjustments. Since he can also prescribe medications I feel covered on all bases.

I had a constant burning in my hips. Finally I went the rheumatologist and he diagnosed it as bursitis. He gave me cortisone injections in both hips and they have not hurt like that since. Hope you get to feeling better.

DH was misdiagnosed with hip brecidis (sp?) and was given cortozone shots but it was actually caused by his back. Months after it all started he ruptured 2 disks in his back and has had back problems ever since.

You mentioned you have a little one at home. My hips go out on me and hurt often as a result of the spreading that occurs during pregnancy. Also if you carry you baby on one hip it can agrivate the problem. Try carrying the baby in front of you whenever possible to make you stand upright more and not off to one side with the baby on a hip.

Yes I do have a little one at home. He is 15 months old and the love of my life. He is now starting to walk by hisself so I dont carry him as much. I bought some Naproxen (Aleve) and used my coupon for the free Excedrin for the Excedrin Back and Body. So far just taking the Aleve daily has helped trememdously. I am supposed to go back into the doctor sometime within the next week to try and see what can be done about my hips hurting so bad. I've been checking in on here off and on all week but havent been able to post with what I'm trying

After I had my little one I started getting pains here and there. I just changed doctors with the new year and I told her of my hips hurting. I took motrin and aleve and it did not touch it either. She did a vit D level test and I was at 8.9 (level is suppost to be 30-50). I was told after having children your vit d level drops quite a bit. I was shocked. She started me on 50,000 units of vit d2 once a week and said that it would help. It did not help with the pain. I went a month taking more Motrin and Aleve and finally told her she was going to have to give me something stronger. She gave me Mobic and after 1 day I have not had any more bone pain. Please anyone that has recently had a child and is having bone pain get your vit d checked. My calcium level was fine cause my body was taking the calcium out of my bones. This is what my old doctor did; she didn't check my vit d.
