    Default Blood Clots & Heartburn

    Nice combination huh

I am 22wks pregnant. I have blood clots in both my legs and am on a modified bedrest. I am having difficulty breathing - not sure if it's from the lack of room in my chest (I swear the baby has pushed my stomach into my lungs) or the clots. All of my doctors (all 4 of them) said "of course you're having difficulties, you have blood clots that restrict blood flow & you need blood flow for your lungs to work properly).

I do NOT have a pulmonary embolism - they checked.

Everytime I take my prenatal vitamin I get heartburn. I took it at lunch today so it wouldn't keep me up all night. So what did DH order (and I eat) for dinner??? Pepperoni pizza!!! ARGH:hectic1:

16ish more weeks to go (scheduled C-section).......

Those blood clots can be pretty serious! Stay off your feet as much as you can. I had one in each leg (left leg near ankle, right leg from groin to knee). On Warfarin for the rest of my life... As for the heartburn, take meds/vitamins with water or milk this helped me but so did a script for Zantac75 (before it was otc)...
Good luck with the remaining weeks of your pregnancy and congrats!!

((HUGS)) I took scooby doo vitamins instead of prenatal. And you can ask for a script for something like prevacid to really help the heartburn

I haven't checked into different vitamins, but I have to have the higher dose of Folic Acid and a plant-based DHA. I want it it 1 pill cause I hate swallowing pills...I take so many now, I couldn't handle another one!!

I am taking 4 Tums and that has been helping so far. I switched from taking it at night to lunch time so it has time to go away before I sleep. Tonight's dinner didn't help me though - LOL.

Mine were chewable ones me no likey swallowing big horse prenatal pills. I tried a chewable prental pill oh my gosh that was worse. You actually can take folic acid pills without all the rest of the vitamins...they come in tiny winy little pills and don't leave any aftertaste or tummy upset.

As for the reflux. there are 3 kinds of pills. Stuff like tums just makes the acid not burn in your throat at that very moment.

H2 blockers (zantac/pepcid/axid) help reduce the amount of acid you tummy makes. These are considered safe during pregnancy...I took 40mg of pepcid twice a day for all 3...with no worries. I would still consult with your ob though.

PPI's (prevacid/prilosec/protonix/aciphex) you can get prevacid and prilosec OTC...but you need to still get a script or okay. These work the best by blocking the production of acid.

acid in your esophogus can cause lots of issues and damage...so IMO I would at least ask about the h2 blockers and if that doesn't help...consider asking about the PPI's as well.
