Have you had your vitamin D levels checked lately? Especially if you live in northern climates!
I think I've finally found the answer to my pain issues! I sure hope so anyway, especially since this is a pretty easy fix!
I had chronic pain issues starting last Feb until the summer...I was just about all the way back by Aug. Well, they started creeping back on me.
One of my first rheumy's that I went to noticed I was low on vitamin D, told me to take 1200 IUs a day, but didn't relate it to anything that was going on, she also never suggested I retest or anything. Over the summer, since I was out in the sun more, I slowed up on taking my supplements ...come fall, my pain started back up. I started back on supplements, still wasn't right, so I googled vitamin D deficiency & pain..OH MY GOODNESS! Went into my Dr., & asked for D tests, even w/ the extra I was taking, I am deficient enough that he put me on 50,000 IU's a week for 6 weeks, then I retest.
I'm having very mixed results...doing well for 3 days, bad for 4, but, that is confirming for me that D is my issue..I've found out he gave me D2 instead of D3 & it doesn't stay in ones system as well, after day 5 it drops tremendously...day 5 is when my pain starts back, day 6 I am down...day 7 down (take my D this day) then I start coming back slowly to the same cycle.
Anyway, googling vitamin D deficiency, 90% have it especially in northern climates. Any sunscreen over 8, blocks any absorption. It effects so many aspects of our health it's stunning, and new revelations are being made every day. Breast cancer, prostate cancer, MS, fibro, bone health, chronic pain, colon cancer, colon health, fatigue, depression..the list goes on & on...in my climate, this time of the year it is not possible to get the D needed by natural sunlight.
Anyway..1,000 IU's min should be taken by ea & every adult living in our area...the old 200 iu standard has been tossed out for quite a few years now, but it's still considered 100% of daily value when you read vitamin bottle labels. Our bodies use 4,000 IUs a day...ideally, 5,000 IUs is what should be taken a day for supplementing & up to 10,000 has been shown safe w/ no adverse effects.
Such an easy fix...google this one! Also, keep in mind, magnesium needs to be added when taking D..I haven't figured out that dosage yet..but I'm working on it! I plan on going back in this week to discuss my breakthrough pain & what I'm finding so far....they wanted to slap that fibro label on me, I've read that many many people are actually misdiagnosed w/ fibro when it's actually the D issue!
