Even if it's not broken, there are all sorts of tendons and thingies that can be seriously injured. The thing with feet (it seems especially) is that once you seriously injure one, they seem to be really prone to re-injury and they can heal all wonky and cause all sorts of grief down the road. I sprained my feet/ankle so many times and always brushed it off. I mean, I babied it a little while it was "healing," but never did anything else about it. Then came recurring bouts of tendonitis and ultimately it became so unstable that I broke it in what shouldn't have been too bad a fall. 36 years old (at that time) with my first broken bone. Mine snapped in two, though, so there was definitely no weight bearing, and now several years later it still causes me problems. I ain't gettin' any younger and those first few steps in the morning are a biznatch.

All that to say I really hope you're able to get it taken care of somehow. I'd hate for it to become a recurring theme in your life and feet seem to hold grudges. Good luck.

To answer the initial question, Is it possible to break a bone and not know it? Yes, as strange as it may sound, it is very possible.

My mother slipped on a wet mat and broke her ankle on the way to her nursing school one morning. It hurt and all but she was able to get up and walk away so she thought all was okay. She went to school, took her test and her instructor MADE her go get it X-rayed... yep, broken, not only that, broken badly enough that she needed surgery and have a metal plate put in her ankle. She still has issues with pain in that ankle.

My son, age 12, was recently at a friend's house and the friend tripped over a chair and fell on my son's arm. He called me to come get him, not crying or anything, and said that he hurt his arm and just wanted to come home. When I went to get him and saw how much pain it caused him to make a fist, we took him in for X-rays. He broke both bones in his arm. I couldn't believe it! They casted him and that lasted all of 2 weeks before he BROKE his cast!! Couldn't believe that one either but.... rather than recasting him, they put him in a splint and he's got 2 more weeks to go before he can take it off.

Good luck with your foot! I hope it feels better soon!

I shop at CVS, Walgreens, Target, Kroger and can dbl up to .50 and trip up to .39

I hope that your foot is feeling better. It is very possible to break a bone and not know it, even can do it without a lot of swelling. I broke my foot in 2 places about 3 years ago by dropping a metal drillbit box on it. I went to the Dr and they said it was just brusied. I walked on it for 6 weeks (doing my normal stuff) before I went back in to have it checked because it still hurt and that's when they found out it was broke.

    YUP!

This past fathers day, it was about 6 in the evening and my DS was outside bouncing on the trampoline. He didn't fall off it, just bounced and landed wrong on his arm.

He gets off, comes inside and tells me with a completely NON STRESSED look that he thinks he broke his arm. (It was actually his elbow) HUH? Kid isan't crying, whining, etc. Just casually tells me that. Keep in mind, he was 6 at the time and can be a bit dramatic. :hectic1:

So, I tell him to go sit on the couch, relax for a little while. I checked it about 30 minutes later and it just looked a bit swollen. Still no crying, whining. DH and I decide that he should get an x-ray JUST IN CASE his elbow MIGHT be SPRAINED.

I load Collin up in the car, and start our 15 minute drive to the ER. (the ONLY place open). He FALLS ASLEEP ON THE WAY THERE! Park, wake him up, go inside to wait. The entire time we are in the waiting room, he is fine. I asked him how his elbow felt, "great now!" I am thinking.. "this is a waste of time". But, stick it out. We're already there.
FINALLY get called back, and they do an x-ray. ONE BONE WAS BROKE, AND ANOTHER CRUSHED!

    oops.
