Default Alli - have you tried it?

First let me say I had no idea where to post this. It was a toss up and this thread won.

I bought Alli about a week ago when it was on sale at CVS. I just got up the nerve to start taking it this past Friday. And now I've turned in to a chicken again and have decided to stop taking it! :hectic1:

Has anyone tried it? What happened to you?

Are there any horror stories besided black grease running down your leg?

I HAVE ACTUALLY TAKEN THE PRESCRIPTION FORM,WHICH IS DOUBLE THE DOSE.THERE IS ALOT OF UNCONTROLABLE GAS AND OILY SEEPING.I DO RECOMMEND WEARING PROTECTION FOR YOUR CLOTHING.THE BEST WAY TO START IS TO CHANGE YOUR DIET FIRST TO A VERY LOW FAT DIET.THE MORE FAT IN YOUR DIET,THE MORE SEEPING THERE WILL BE.OVER A THREE MONTH TIME PERIOD,I DID LOSE 15 POUNDS WITH THE MEDS,DIET & EXERCISE.I STOPPED TAKING IT BECAUSE IT WAS A SCRIPT & I COULDN'T AFFORD IT ANY MORE AT THE TIME.HOPE THAT HELPS.

I have tried the OTC form. Maybe it's not strong enough but I haven't had any bad effects. I do try to keep down the fat but even when I have a relatively fatty meal after taking one pill it doesn't cause any gross stuff. I have noticed having more bm's though. I'm usually on the constipated side and I think it helps that. I have lost weight but I am also cutting calories so I don't know how much the Alli is doing. I will finish this bottle and if it's on a good sale again I might get some more. I might be brave and take two at a time and see what it does.

Default Re: Alli - have you tried it?

I started taking Alli on 9/4/09. I am currently using this with the Weight Watchers plan. The first week, I didn't see any signs of side effects. The second week, I had stomach cramps when I needed to use the bathroom, but other then that no other side effects. From then on I go to the bathroom every other day and have no side effects and random stomach cramping but it is tolerable. I have seen an additional weight loss with this product and Weight Watchers has told me to slow down on my weight loss. I think each person is different and there body will act differently to this product. I only take two pills a day one with lunch and another with dinner. The main thing is to take it while you eat and only if you eat some fat in your meal. I eat a really light breakfast so I avoid Alli during this meal. Regarding other side effects, I carried extra panties around with me for 2 weeks and never needed them.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

I had a friend who tried Alli, and she lost a bunch of weight. Of course she stayed within the fat guidelines so she wouldn't have any sideaffects. I have heard stories from ppl who did not stay under the recommened fat amount and had embarrassing leaks.

I took it, and while I didn't have the horror story side effects, it had the opposite effect...I was constipated to no end. While on it I Took 3 laxatives in 3 days and still couldn't go. Once I stopped taking it...I went like crazy and felt a whole lot better.

I gave the rest to my sister and she followed the low fat plan and did fine.

I should say though....in my opinion the reason I had problems is because I have no gallbladder. I was using the Alli website and it had a forum there. I asked the question about how it worked without my gallbladder, and the moderators deleted it and sent me a private email that I couldn't say anything "bad" about their product on the boards, that it was for encouragement only. I emailed them asking specifically if not having a gallbladder would cause the problems that I had...they told me to talk with my physician about it...so I just quit taking it. So these are only My humble opinions. :D
